MN Randonneurs, Have you looked at this site for "Cyclos Montagnards"? I am interested in putting together a 24 hour Fleche Challenge with a team of adventurous and hardy MN Randonneurs following part of a beautiful route I did in 2010 along the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail. The date would possibly fall between the Aug. 25 Munger Bungo 600k and the Sep. 15/16 200k double header weekend in Wisconsin. Fitness levels should be peaking around then. Imagine a triangular route of about 450 km. The route from perhaps a St. Croix Falls start/finish would be pavement, the middle sections going east, and then south or north along the Trans Wi Adv Trail and coming back west would include gravel and some rideable but slower dirt forest roads. Hilly in sections but no long climbs. Something like that... The right bike would probably have about 35mm tires or so, and be efficient and reliable on tarmac and some rougher stuff. Think of a gravel race, cyclocross, or touring bike. The CM rules penalize your time if you use battery headlighs instead of a dynamo headlight, so that should be on the list of considerations. There wouldn't be many conveniences on much of the route, so the team needs to be well prepared for self sufficiency. Not only changing tubes but patching tire casings, fixing broken chains, or resolving whatever plight may arise during the adventure. The proposed route with controls must be submitted and approved by Cyclos Montagnards before the ride. I have only wild ideas right now but it's a start! Some brain storming sessions and beer may be needed to tune up the finer details. If you want to do this, let me know. The team needs to have let's say ~4 riders, and must finish together. Cheers, |
