I am sending this email just to see how an email posts in the forum.  I assume it will go in as a new topic, but also wanted to see if the picture goes though using my email.  Need to learn the ropes.

Ok that was pretty easy....I think I can handle this...Photo, by the
way, was taken pre-dawn near Murdow, SD in very low light. Taken
handheld using Image Stabilized canon 100-400 lens....the IS really
does work!

Nice shot. I had a 75-300 Canon IS lens earlier when I first bought my
20d, but I ended up selling it. The IS was nice, but I found that I
didn't use telephoto much and bought a better walkaround lens instead.

The 100-400 is actually a good friends lens, but we share freely. I
have used it quite a bit and do like it...but my problem is that it
isn't long enough for a lot of wildlife. I am thinking about maybe
gettting a 400 prime (f/5.6) that I could use with a teleconverter, but
am not sure I want that long of lens without the IS. Just something to
dream about, I guess. I do use a long lens quite a bit, and a wide
lens for landscapes. Not so much use in the middle. I need a good
long lens to pretty much fill my lens needs, but am in no rush. I would
like to see Canon update the 100-400 to the newer IS system....then I
would problably bite. Thanks again for telling me about this forum.

I have read that is a nice lens, too, but I really need at least 400mm
and would like (but can't afford) longer. It seems for wildlife and
birds, what you have is never long enough. That is why I am thinking
about a good prime with a teleconverter....but thinking is all I am
going to do for a while.
