Open thread for suggestions on themes and location for our next
outing...

I know MN Wild suggested earlier on the old board that we try Lake
street for some street photography.

The Stone Arch Bridge in Mpls is now lit up at night. I'd like to get
out there sometime. That's one idea.

I'm around this weekend, gone next, and then pretty much around through
New Years...I'd love to get over a do the Stone Arch at night. Let me
know when you want to go.

I'm thinking maybe the weekend of Dec. 3 might be a good start.

Sounds like a plan at this point!

Honestly, I'd love to (even though it's outside of my two miles :), the
only problem is that I'm a weekender (for the day job), and unless it's
before 1 PM, I'm out...

If it is planned to be done by 1 PM though, count me in :)

I've been wanting to get our for an early morning jaunt sometime too.
Winter is especially good for that. Often you can get the frosty trees
and such. If we don't get out in the morning for this one, we'll
definitely try another time.

Welcome to the group, Aaron.

This is GREAT -- should we "shoot" for Saturday morning? I'm up for
anytime that weekend at this point.
Otherwise I'm dying to do some night shots, we could try an evening
"safari" on a weeknight!

And based on Aaron's website -- he looks to be "our" kind of field
photographer. Great shots! I especially love your wide angle of the
"The Edge".

I like the morning idea. We'll get to the bridge at night eventually,
too. What's a good spot not too far from us? I'm thinking some water
(or probably ice, at this point), trees...any other ideas?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to get there pre-sunrise
(which, according to my calculations, is 7:32am on Dec. 3).

So are we talking stone arch in the AM on Dec 3? I'd be in. My schedule
is pretty open, at least with some advance notice, although If I can
fit it in with my fiancee's work schedule, that would be helpful (she
is working overnights, so we don't see each other much). I think 7AM
would work regardless though, since she isn't home or is crashed out at
that point if she is off.

As for other locales-

Minnehaha falls
Either of the Zoos
The U
A trip down the light rail line
Wirth park

I think we should save the stone arch bridge for a night shoot, since
it would be neat to get the new lights on it.

I'd be up for Minnehaha Falls in the morning, though.

It works better early than late since they are pretty strongly backlit
at sunset.

Are the lights on all night into the morning?

I might be able to make it to this, but I'd like a real meeting time,
and some
way of know who others are.

Also, where do we meet? I'm not real familiar with the area.

We haven't finalized anything at this point, but once we do, we'll make
sure everyone knows exactly where we're meeting. So far I think we're
looking at Minnehaha Falls on the morning of Dec. 3rd. Maybe 6 or 7am?

Anyone else can feel free to chime in with other ideas. I'm a horrible
location scout.

Me too. We could all meet at the building at the top of the falls.
There is metered parking right there for pretty cheap (maybe 50 cents
an hour) and if you are willing to walk a little, free street parking,
which should be pletiful at the crack of dawn in the winter.

Also, there are a couple coffee shops and such around there. Maybe we
could shoot for a couple hours and get a late breakfast.

I take it that this arrangement hasn't been finalized yet. Correct?

I think we're pretty close to finalizing it. Most people that are
interested seem to be OK with meeting at 6 or 7am at Minnehaha Falls
next Saturday.

I'm in for Saturday morning. Minnehaha sounds good!

I'm in for 7:00, not so sure about 6:00, Sunrise is 7:33 for Dec 3rd.
Standing there for a hour and a half in the dark doesn't do much for
me.
It will probably be a half an hour past sunrise before the sun hits the
falls.
(if there is sun on saturday)

Geez Andy, I know you're not getting any sleep right now -- but do you
have to spoil it for the rest of us? ;)

I'm also inclined to agree that 6am is too early....my coffee won't
have kicked in yet.

7am sound good to all those involved? Quick show of hands.

Yup, I could do 6 if I had to, BUT I agree, there is no sense getting
out there in the dark.
