I would be very upset to learn that our tax dollars are being used to fund this prohibitionist's appearance. He is right in saying that legalization is about money...and power. Law Enforcement is concerned about a loss of revenue. Current cannabis laws open up the door for asset forfeiture and "probable cause" for warrantless searches. The prison industrial complex stands to lose revenue and this impacts law enforcement on the supply side, prison guards on the control side, and of course the corporations who operate prisons and treatment centers. The billions of dollars spent thus far on prohibition in the name of the war on drugs has been fruitless. There has been no noticeable decline in our overall population in terms of usage. The only real trend is leading the world in terms of having the largest prison population. Popular opinion has been consistently showing most adults support regulating cannabis like alcohol. If we are going to make arguments that this is to "protect the kids" or prevent harm then let's have an honest discussion about harms. The scientific facts all support cannabis being far safer than alcohol. Alcohol has a higher rate of addiction with more severe withdrawal symptoms, leads to many violent incidents, and can actually cause death through overconsumption. Contrast that to cannabis. As a father and tax paying citizen I support legalization to create a regulated market that provides the framework needed to keep cannabis, like alcohol, out of the hands of the youth while testing for safety and capturing the tax revenue from sales. The results of our current prohibition have created biased enforcement results. All measure indicates blacks and whites use cannabis at essentially the same rates but yet here in Hennepin County blacks are about 9 times more likely to be cited or arrested. We should not be straddling people with arrest records for something so minor that limits their employment opportunities and perpetuates the cycle of incarceration. Yes, it would be great to know where these public servants were meeting but I suppose they want to keep that a secret to avoid protests.

Keep in mind SAM is pretty good about skirting the line on public expenditures for their propaganda gigs. Kurt found earlier how Hazelden backed out of the last big Sabet event set because it was too politicized, someone could to data requests to see if the government is paying to bring him in, or if it is not financed on the tax dime.
