"Colorado, Oregon, and Washington see firsthand that regulation not only works but is a cash cow. " Paul Sableman |
Reader Chris Kurle responds to Major deal would cut Minnesota prison sentences... except for marijuana:
While I think the other reforms are great and sensible, the treatment of marijuana penalties is just plain moronic. How out of touch are these prosecutors?
Poll after poll shows the majority of Americans — and Minnesotans for that matter — support the legalization of cannabis for adults. It blows my mind that these imbeciles keep getting voted back into office.
Obviously law enforcement doesn't want to give up the easy arrests and forfeiture revenues they are raking in here. Ironically, we can look at three of our biggest competitor states — Colorado, Oregon, and Washington — and see firsthand that regulation not only works but is a cash cow.
Think of all the infrastructure we could modernize with those revenues. Our legislators can't even agree how to fund transit and roads, all the while there is this option right in front of their ignorant faces.
