Who all is planning on riding? I'm not going to make a firm commitment
because I'm not 100% certain I'll be able to make it. Plus if it's 29
degrees and raining; I'm going back to sleep. So if I show, I'm
planning on just meeting you all at Bay Point Park at 9:00am. Also, if
you are going, how far are you planning on riding? I'll probably
attempt the whole 107 miles but there's a pretty decent chance I'll
bail if I get tired. You guys are crazy. I am fat.

I'm planning to go, but i'd rather not do the full trip around the
lake either, and i'll skip out if it's raining. I haven't mapped
anything out yet, but i'd like to do something more like from the park
to Stockholm and back, preferably at least some of it on gravel, total
around 60 miles or so. I think a century at this point would be more
of a slog for me than a training ride. I also want to be back in town
by around 4-5, so that limits the distance for me too.

FWIW, the weather forecast seems to be improving. High of 50F and
sunny.

Don't be overwhelmed by the 107 miles. Think of it at 10.7 ten-mile
rides, half of which you can coast downhill. Easy.

Long time reader, first time poster. I am planning to ride this Sunday
and I would be up for the 107. I will need a ride, so I will plan to
meet the group at Hiawatha Cyclery and bring gas money. Looking
forward to both the training ride and the Almanzo!

Just to clarify, despite the thread title, this ride is on this coming
*Sunday*, right?

I'll likely be driving there myself, since i will need to get back to
the city earlier and probably won't ride the full route. I have room
for one more bike and 1-3 more passengers if needed.

The ride is Sunday, March 28, 9am in Red Wing. Caravan congregates at
HC at 7:30am.

Yes! Sunday. For some reason I had it in my head it was Saturday. That
means the only reason I would not show-up would be weather. My only
other potential commitment this weekend is Saturday morning.

I have received information from a credible source that Sunday's
weather will be warm and sunny!

I recommend packing extra socks. There will be some water crossings.

Which direction are you riding? First half or second half of the route?

Bill,

I'm not sure if you were talking to me or not but my plan is to
attempt the entire route. I'll bail out early if I get too tired. I'm
driving down to Red Wing solo in order to preserve my ability to do
so. I plan on being at Bay Piont Park by no later than 9:00am. With
extra socks.

Water crossings?

I have to bow out for tomorrow. Just wanted to make sure no one was
waiting for a guy named Aaron at the caravan. Good luck; I hope to get
to a future training ride.

I hate to say it, and I too will not make tomorrow's ride.

I just broke a spoke this evening and it doesn't look like I'll be back in action by 7:30 in the morning. Doh. Next time for sure.

Ben, if you're at HC by 7, I'll fix your wheel before we leave.

Great ride, thanks guys! I'm really glad i stuck with my plan - i
ended up with 64 miles, and i was ready to be done. Headwind all the
way back, except for the last 3 miles. I loved that loop from Maiden
Rock to Stockholm, i could see making a day of driving to Maiden Rock
and just exploring those back roads.

After Bill left the group, the rest of us completed the ride with
about 102 miles for the day. The ride included some wonderful gravel
roads and plenty of good hills. I'll post the route and a few photos
soon. Thanks to all who did the ride and waited for me at the
hilltops!

I agree that a day dedicated to exploring some of the roads around
Maiden Rock and Stockholm would be fun. The gravel loop towards the
end that included Hill Avenue was a good on too. I really enjoyed the
ride! I was so tired at the end that I probably didn't show it though.
I usually hadn't made it to the tops of those climbs much before Jim
arrived. So the "waiting" at the top was a welcome respite! Bill, I'm
sure that riding back to Red Wing solo into that headwind was a good
challenge. I conveniently sucked wheel when we were riding into the
wind most of the time. It seemed like Jim and Josh had it in their
faces all day.

Thanks to everyone who went on sunday for the company and the ride.
You're all very welcoming to the new guy with the squeaky bike. I had
a great time! I'd be up for exploring more of those back roads
anytime.
