newly added "Yet to learn" card not shown on that same day

When I add a new card and select the grade "Yet to learn", I would like Mnemosyne to show me the card at least once or twice on that same day so that I can start memorising it straight away.

I am not sure this is a good strategy for memorising cards and I know Mnemosyne will show me the "Yet to learn" cards in due time, but I would like to memorise as many of the new cards as well as possible straight away when adding them, before they are added to the big stack in the system of spaced repetition.

The reason is, I have a reason to learn the card today, because I have seen the word somewhere / heard it in context / read it etc., it is fresh on my mind and the motivation is high to learn it right now. I'd like to make use of this advantage and learn it as well as possible right away, rather than just adding it and then waiting for Mnemosyne to bring it up at a time when that item will be almost like any other word in the dictionary to me.

I think this question has come up before but I cannot find that post anymore. One user suggested adding a tag to solve this issue, but isn't there an easier way than tagging and then removing the tag again the next day, when adding a new set of cards?

Sorry if I have missed something. Or if you think this is not a good way to memorise things, please let me know.

Thanks and best wishes,
Furaha

Hi,

Once you go through all your scheduled cards, Mnemosyne will start to show you the 'yet to learn' cards, as often and as many as you feel like.

The idea here is that first you should make sure you don't forget what you've learned before, and then you can start working on learning new stuff.

Cheers,

Peter

Just give the new cards a different tag until you tag them together with your daily routine. I often do that for the opposite reason: i may import a bunch of cards on one day, but I want to delay memorising (some of) them

Hi Peter,

"Mnemosyne will start to show you the 'yet to learn' cards,"

Will it start the same day I have added them?
I have gone through all the scheduled cards, then added new ones. Still the "scheduled" counter is at zero.

Thanks and cheers

Hi,

The scheduled cards will appear the next day, after you've slept on your new memories :-)

Hi,

Ah, thanks! :-)
I appreciate that you reply to all questions and reply so swiftly!

Yes, sleep works wonders for memorising. :-)

Still, I am wondering whether scheduling right after having added cards (or at least on the same day) could speed up the process and enhance the success of memorising?
By selecting an item to be added as a card and typing it in, that info is already quite present in the short term memory. Why not give it another boost by scheduling it right after being added?

This is just based on a gut feeling and on what I used to do when working with hard copy flash cards. I am happy to learn about results from memory research or experiences of other users that suggest this to be inefficient.

Anyway, if scheduling right away or at least on the same day is helpful, then maybe it would be an idea to include an option "schedule on same day as added" in the preferences?
Or indeed giving those newly added cards a separate tag would be a solution, as Hendrik has kindly suggested. But since it is a repeated action, it would be nice to automatise it.

Thank you for your time and input,
Fura

Hi,

This is not implemented. Research shows that sleep is important in forming new memories.
