Is it possible to change the media folder location of a database?

I have two databases which use the same media files (images and sounds) but I am forced by Mnemosyne to keep 2 different copies of each. To keep everything in sync I have an additional folder called Primary_media - thus a total of 3 folders each containing the same media files. One folder for each database and a primary one to which I can make changes and then have it auto sync to the other two media folders.

1. DatabaseA.db_media folder    <----        Database A
2. DatabaseB.db_media folder    <----        Database B
3. Primary_media folder

I would like to know if I can just have a single Primary_media folder and have the 2 databases reference this folder.

Thanks

Hi,

Note that keeping two separate databases is not recommended, amongst other for this reason. The option to activate a subset of cards within the same database is also much more flexible.

You could try with using symlinks on your filesystem, but then be sure never to use the option to delete unused media files.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Sorry for the late reply. I was under the impression that google would send out an email if someone replies to my post. I tried the application you recommended and it appears to be working perfectly so far. Thank you!

I understand that the use of two databases isn't recommended but I have no choice because of the following reasons:
1. I have divided my cards into multiple categories and my currently active cards are spread out. So its not easy to switch them on and off despite the flexibility offered by Mnemosyne.
2. I have a huge backlog of scheduled cards. So Mnemosyne's inability to include unmemorized cards in daily circulation forces me to use a separate smaller DB for such cards. I hope you will address this deficiency in the coming release.

Thank you again for your wonderful software and your assistance.

Regards

Faisal.
