Hello everyone.  I'm happy to announce the availability of a beta "one click" installer for Mac OS X (Snow Leopard and Lion).  I have tested this on both my Mac and a friend's and I didn't notice any major issues, but this is my first time packaging software for OS X so there may still be some glitches (that's why I have marked this a beta).  Still, I hope it saves some people the trouble of compiling the dependencies for OS X and opens up Mnemosyne to more new users.

You can download the installer from the downloads page:

Cheers,
Patrick

Excellent! Thanks Patrick, works fine on my Snow Leopard and Lion installations, no glitches so far.

I tried compiling from source before I saw this on a clean Lion installation by following the README instructions but after running python setup.py install I wasn't table to run mnemosyne and it couldn't find the binary on the installation path. I saw no errors on the console. Are the installation instructions up to date?

Actually I found 1 big blocker issue: when I try to Browse cards I get
the following error:

"Database error: Driver not loaded Driver not loaded" (With exactly
that punctuation)

And then Mnemosyne exists.

1) Mac Mini Intel Solo and 2) MacBook Intel Core Duo 3.1

OS 10.6-8

In: Users/ ~~/Library/Mnemosyne/backups
config
configpy
~etc for V 1.2 ...

Before trying Beta installer for Mac OS 10 Snow Leopard, Mnemosyne 2 — should I rename that Mnemosyne folder; rename and move to desktop or another volume.

Should I also remove the whole V 1.2 application ? (I usually do not with other upgrades, unless demanded by the developer: but do take care that the names are different.) I'd like to avoid problems arising from carelessness.

George

Normally, it should upgrade your 1.x files automatically, but it does
not hurt to take a backup first :-)

Not sure if you need to uninstall the old version on mac, it shouldn't hurt.

I haven't tested the upgrading for the Mac on my machine, because I didn't have 1.x installed.  However, I did confirm that the upgrade script runs, so you should be ok.

In any case, please do back up your data first (I would back up the entire Mnemosyne directory in ~/Library/Application Support/Mnemosyne).  The Mac version *should* work but there may still be unknown problems lurking somewhere...

Cheers,
Patrick

Not sure if you followed the OSX specific bug reports that are posted
to our forums, but see e.g.:

Checking with EasyFind: CCC has been carbon copy cloning ~Library/Mnemosyne/backups/..... Faithfully.

Thanks for confirming that no problems are expected !

Hi Patrick,

Speaking of the mac installer, I assume the issue Juan reported with not being able to start the card browser has been fixed as well?

Cheers,

Peter

No, unfortunately not yet.  It's on my todo list.

Saturday and today (June 23rd & 25th) I have downloaded Mnemosyne four times.  Twice my system reported it could not recognize the disk image file, twice I was able to install and begin to open, only to get a series of error messages.  MacBook Air running Lion (10.7.4).  Hope this information is helpful.

Greetings,

Thank you for your report.

What error messages did you receive specifically?

What is the file size of the Mnemosyne application in your Applications folder?

Regards,
Patrick

I am happy to announce the availability of a new Mac beta which should fix the issue that Juan reported (not being able to open the browse cards window).

The Mac installer currently only works on 10.7; I will try to get a 10.6 version out eventually but since it looks like I will need to install 10.6 on a separate partition and build everything from scratch that will take some time.

The new beta is available from the downloads page:

Please add any issues you experience with the beta to this thread.

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Patrick, just confirming that it now works perfectly for me on
10.7. Thanks for fixing that issue. And thanks to Peter and everybody
else who have been working on v2!

Patrick: do you have an updated list of steps to generate a build
under OSX? I have a 10.6 installation around and a bit more time now
to try to get it build.

Why doesn't it work for 10.6?

In addition to the steps noted in the readme, you will need to install cherrypy manually due to a Macports bug:

sudo easy_install cherrypy
(after you have set the python to be the macports python)

I will produce a 10.6 installer in a week or two but right now I have some other things I need to do first.

Cheers,
Patrick
