jump to current card in card browser / duplicate card

Hi all,

I have a question or a feature request, depends on the answer of the question :-)

I often find myself in the situation where I see a card during my repetitions and I realise I need to make a similar card with slighty rephrased question and/or answer.  Is there a way to duplicate a card so I can edit the duplicated version?

I would find such a feature very helpful, and it could be made accessible from the repetition window directly (in the 'Card' menu) but would also be required in the context menu when right clicking on a card in the card browser.   

Linked to that: is there a way to jump from my repetition window to the current card in the card browser?

Are there other people who would also find this useful?

Could you elaborate a bit on why you need two slightly different versions of
the same card, as opposed to just having everything on the same card?

In any case, even if not a lot of people use this and it would therefore bloat
the UI, this can always be implemented as a plugin.

Afraid not. This also seems like a rather niche feature to warrant
complicating the UI for this, but this could be implemented in a plugin.

I also see great learning advantages of what Roel describes. Earlier
I wrote:


1) I really miss the possibility of searching e.g "da Vinci" and
then
with "the click of a button" page back and forth, actually seeing all
the cards (including images) containing "da Vinci", therby identifying
obvious gaps in my future knowledege base
2) If in this review process I find a card that touches an area that
I
struggle with, I would love to be able to (with "the click of a
button") to copy this card, see the copy, then modify it and save it
thus enriching my "da Vinci" knowledge platform

This has happened to me some times before; I usually just copy the
text of the card to notepad then add a new card. However the new card
will be added to the bottom of the stack and not after the card. A new
feature could be added which lets you specify whether you want to add
new cards or imported cards to "button of stack, top of stack or after
current card". Also it could be a nice feature to have to be able to
change the initial order of the cards in the card browser (as
submitted in launchpad).

But that you do have in the current 2.0 card browser, right? If you type in
'da Vinci' in the search box, you have all the cards containing 'da Vinci'. If
you then preview one of these cards, you can use PgUp/PgDown to previous the
other cards in the selection.

(It's a recent addition, though, and the tip documenting this only went in in
the last beta)

Currently only 'random order' or 'in the order new cards were added' is
supported. What you want could go in a plugin, but personally I'm not sure the
initial order in which you learn cards is extremely important, so I'm not
convinced it's worth complicating the UI for this.

Oh, by the way, a trick to somewhat force a different order in learning cards
is marking the cards you want to learn with a certain tag, activating only
that tag, and then studying the cards.

(sorry for the delay in follow up from my side, and happy new year to all!)

I try to give an example why I would need a 'duplicate card': i have some cards with images (print screens of latex formulas) or also pure latex. I often want to ask multiple questions regarding one image.

An example: (image of painting): What is the name of this painting? / Who made this painting?  / When was this painting made? / ...  

I often use copy/paste like Gnome explained, so I'd love a 'duplicate card' option.  As a plugin is fine if you're afraid it would blow up the minimalist interface. 

A reason why I would want a feature to jump to the current viewed card in the card browser: to check wich other cards I have about a given topic (similar to the 'Da Vinci' example from Henrik): as time passes, I often realise that the cards I entered are not sufficient to keep the knowledge and understanding.  So I often add a card of something I had (almost) forgotten that helps me to get the full picture again.

OK, I'm still debating whether to put this standard or as a plugin. Also no
guarantees that this will be in 2.0 :-(

But just jumping to the current card does not help you there, right, since it
does not give you all the related cards automatically? So, you'd still need to
type 'Da Vinci' in the search box to bring up similar cards.
