If you select "Show controls" under "Settings -> Configure Mnemosyne" you
will get a play und pause botton for the sound. Works for me (mnemosyne 2.x,
linux-system).

My version is for Windows (2.0.1) and did not find the option "Show controls". Someone who has this version can help me?
Thanks for your help, Stephan.

This is a linux-only feature, I'm afraid.

There are some bugs in the Windows version of the GUI toolkit we use
(Qt) which prevent this.

Peter Bienstman,

Is there any hope that this feature will be implemented in Windows some time soon? I really wanted to migrate from SuperMemo to Mnemosyne but it is not worth it if I have to wait for every sound to play till the end before moving on to the next question.

Thanks!

I have no idea, it's not up to me to fix this, but up to the Qt
developers, and I have zero control over that... At least I was able to
provide an alternative sound system so that at least people have sound
under Windows :-)

You can move to the next card before the sound has finished playing.
It's just that it will keep on playing while you are already looking at
the next card.

Perhaps that is already sufficient for your purposes.

Unfortunately, the next card has a sound too. Vanessa and I are working with a collection of bird voices.
Is there another alternative to SuperMemo that is free and simple to use?

Thank you for the feedback!

There is Anki, but I would say it has a much steeper learning curve.

Cheers,

Peter
