Good Evening! (or Morning!)

I am working on Qur'anic flashcards and cannot see the PNG image that I create from .ppt files of each individual word?  JPEG is unsuitable for what I am doing, and PNG has always been the clearest image for each word that uses a font based on hand written calligraphy.

What do you advise, please?

Thank you.

Which version of Mnemosyne (1.2.1, 2.1, etc.) are you using?  Also, are you on Windows, Mac, or Linux?

Cheers,
Patrick

Just to make sure there is nothing going on with the conversion step ppt
to png, can you try with a few other png files that don't come from ppt?

Also make sure to add pictures using the 'Insert picture' option, and
not manually.

Hi Patrick and Peter,

I am using Mnemosyne 2.1 (? - the latest version) on a Windows 7 64-bit platform.  And I just tried it again, and on the main preview card (using vocabulary template), I could not see the 'slide' on the upper portion, and looked at the 'next sister card' and it appeared on the bottom - and I switched back to the 'previous sister card' and it popped it.

I suspect that it is too large - I originally created these in .ppt as 6" x 11" flashcards, based on the Doman reading technique for very young children, to make the text very easy to read for when my children were younger.  It is not easy to change the size of each word, because of the process I went through, due to the rules of writing and pronunciation in Arabic - as it relates to the beginning diacritic of each word with Alif and the Hamza seat is usually "known" to native speakers, but not visible in writing or always pronounced (hamzatul wasl) - so I added that beginning diacritic as a grayed out letter / overlay, on certain words to know the technical spelling of the word in isolation of it's sentence (although it is not grammatically correct, but it is from a standpoint of learning vocabulary in context, especially because we are non-native learners.)

I will play around with it and see what happens, because if I have to readjust everything, it will be countless hours again (and I originally worked for 18 months at 2 - 5 hours per day to create the flashcards in .ppt), until I realized that we needed SRS.  I just tried it a few more times and it seems to be working now.  And it seems I will have to adjust each word anyways, because in another software I use PNG files in, there is not a place for translation, and I included it as a small footnote on each slide, which defeats the purpose of Mnemosnye.

Also, I am curious if there is a plug-in to learn and/or review words in order several times, and then proceed with randomization of review for the meaning?  It would save me the effort of using two other programs, if I could just focus on three-part learning process with Mnemosyne.  For example, I would quickly teach the spelling of the individual words in isolation for word recognition/pronunciation and familiarity with the English translation in .ppt, and then for randomized review of the Arabic word recognition/pronunciation, I would use a specific schedule in BrillKids Little Reader software (http://www.brillkids.com/teach-reading/) that is highly configurable, but does not include a SRS component, that is needed for learning/retaining the English translations.  And then for focusing on retaining the translation and introduction to grammatical information, Mnemosyne is perfect!

I am sorry for all of the details, but I don't know how else to explain it.  As you know, I am working on two major projects:  al-Kitaab flashcards with soundclips, and the Qur'anic flashcards, and switch between them when I need a break from the other.

Thank you for your patience.

Best Regards,

Ayesha

This may not be (part of) your issue, but there's a known bug that the
first image to be shown after you startup (maybe only if it's the
first card, but I don't think so) won't show. We think this is a QT
bug.

It happens to me on startup if my first card is an image card, which
sadly is a lot of mine. But I think I've seen in in preview, also.

Not really, as it's not really recommended to learn new stuff in a
strict order. Some randomisation helps you to better memorise. E.g.,
if you always learn B right after A, you might have some trouble
remembering it when it comes after C instead...
