I have problems installing Mnemosyne in a new Mac Air. I have downloaded the Mac version of the program and when I try to open it - I get the following error message:

Anybody know what I can do?

As far as I know, Patrick, our OSX packager, is aware of this issue
and is working on a fix.

Cheers,

Peter

Thank you for the feedback. Then I just wait until a new version comes along. I love this program,

I see that there are 2 downloaded files:

Mnemosyne-2.0-Mac-Beta2.dmg and
Mnemosyne-2-1.0-Mac-Beta2.dmg

Is this correct?

Patrick can probably best answer this, but I assume the 2-1.0 is a
later version.

Greetings,

In this case, it appears that you simply downloaded the file twice; Safari will automatically add a -1 upon the second download because it is impossible to save two files with the same name.

When you say you are attempting to launch the program on a new MacBook Air, which version of OS X are you using?  (To check, click the Apple in the upper left corner of the screen and choose "About this Mac."  The version number will be displayed below "Mac OS X.")

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi,

My OSX version is 10.7.4. Mnemosyne actually worked the first time I downloaded it (last week just after buying the machine). Then I copied the default.mem file from my windows computer with all the cards this week, and I tried to paste this file into the download folder in the Mac (where the Mnemosyne-2.0-Mac-Beta2.dmg was placed). Maybe I placed the default.mem in the wrong folder in the iMac? At least the trouble started after this, but I hadn't been using the iMac Mnemosyne for some days before I added the default.mem file, so it's hard to say. Maybe I have not managed to erase all the old Mnemosyne files, before I try to install the program again?

*.mem files are 1.x database files. If you want to migrate your data
from your 2.0 Windows install, you need to copy the data directory
which contains default.db and default.db_media and put its contents in
~/Library/Mnemosyne

Hi again,

And thank you for the support so far. Now I've managed to download the latest version of Mnemosyne for Mac successfully. So now I try to import my cards via USB drive from my Windows PC. I copy the following files from the Windows .mnemosyne folder:

backups (File folder)
history (File folder)
latex (File folder)
plugins (File folder)
config (File)
config.py (PY-file)
default.mem (MEM-file)
error_log (Textdocument)
log (Textdocument)
MNEMOSYNE_LOCK (File)

And put this content into the ~/Library/Mnemosyne in the Mac. But it does not seem to react to this action, and now more cards are are added to the Mac Mnemosyne. Any idea what I do wrong?

Best regards Espen

You haven't done anything wrong; its just that there are some steps to go, most likely.

1) Go to the Mnemosyne - Deck menu. Try 'Activate Categories'

2) See if there is a list that results as in the right hand window, below. If there is one, or more items that you want to practice on: select them.

(These windows are from Mnemo 1.2 — Version 2 has a lot more options, usually.)

3) Click the 'OK' button and wait patiently for it to organise itself.

4) If that does not do the trick you could try restarting, then go through the drill again...

George

Put the contents of this in an abtrary directory, open Mnemosyne 2.0,
select file-import, and select default.mem.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks for the professional version of that step: I'll copy that myself...

Thanks, this worked excellently! So, next I'll try to see if I manage to transfer the cards back from a Mac to a Windows based PC. :-)

You can use the built-in sync protocal to sync cards between two different
machines.

My install of Mnemo 2 went beautifully and the import of cards went according to Peter's expert instructions. Now I have to find a way of letting Mnemosysne access civilised fonts that are in my system: shouldn't be too hard.
