Everything seems to have gone swimmingly, until the very very end. Second to last step in the readme:
Type 'python setup.py install' as root.
Do I have do do anything but type that in and press enter? Gives me errno 2 no such file or directory. I feel like I'm missing a key word to type in there and feeling pretttttttty dumb.
I tried to run mnemosyne anyway and got command not found.

Thanks for any and all help. Cant wait to get to studying! lololol.

Hi,

On OSX, it's probably better to try the one-click beta installer that Patrick
made. You can download it from our website.

Cheers,

Oh wait, is this the one click installer that's only good on Lion? Because I tried one of them and got the error messages. Is there another for previous OSXs, and if so where? If not then I'm still on the same step for installing through the terminal.

Then it's best to wait until Patrick provides an updated version, as
it's very tricky to install from source.

Hmmm, Im pretty sure I have installed it, as the instructions are excellent, and terminal has been giving me all sorts of wonderful error free feedback about whats going on, its just this one step. I dont know how to type 'python setup.py install' as root, unless that means just typing whats in quotes and pressing enter. What is this "as root" business? Is that part fairly complicated or is it as simple as it sounds? If it is too complicated for someone to explain then I will humbly wait for any and all updates, though it would be grand to have this explained to me. Thanks again for any and all help.

I know how to do this under linux, but it probably does not apply under OSX.

Also, don't be misled by the fact that this is the 'last step', as in
this step you find out about all the missing libraries and where it
can go wrong in many ways...

Ah I see. Well thanks for the feedback.
Anyone out there who has done this on the mac and can offer a little help?

It does apply under any version of Unix, including OSX;  but the words are different:  when I go to System Preferences...  (Show All)  I see —

"Personal
Hardware
Internet and Wireless
System
Accounts
Other"
And my accounts are Admin and Guest Account;  Admin should be the Root level.

I do have an ebook about this if it would be helpful ?

If you get a "no file or directory" error, it means you are in the wrong directory.  You must change the directory using the terminal to the directory into which you unzipped the mnemosyne files.

Example (you start in the home directory by default; this example assumes the files were unzipped to a mnemosyne-2.0 directory inside the Downloads directory):
cd Downloads/mnemosyne-2.0
(cd command changes directories)

Then "sudo python setup.py install"

Your account must be an administrator account and you will need to enter your password.

Patrick

Wahoo! One step closer.

Now I'm at -Run the application by typing 'mnemosyne'. and I got a "command not found".

My goodness thanks for your help.

Thanks to the pioneers — can I recommend Vodka for any arrows in your backs !

You have me interested: I'll download onto my MacBook OS 10.6.8. Certainly I'll need a crib sheet as installation proceeds...~:(
