Hi,

Do you plan updating Mnemosyne for Maemo? The current desktop version is 2 minor ones ahead, and the mobile lacks some features (such as browsing the cards)

I'm no python specialist (I know the basic stuff here) (and don't know gtk at all) but maybe I'd be able to help in some packaging/autobuilder/etc. stuff.

Regards,

Peter Bienstman

Hi,

There were some people working on Mnemosyne for Maemo a couple of years
ago, but as I recall, there was never even an 'official' release, i.e.
compatible with an officially released Mnemosyne 2.x. I doubt these people
are still working on this...

Cheers,

Peter

Hi, Marcin

I was working on porting Mnemosyne to Maemo platform some years ago, but now Maemo is dead and stopped supporting 'Mnemosyne for Maemo' :(

Would disagree about the death :) But, nevertheless, would anything convince you to develop the Maemo version? ;)

Hi, Marcin

It really dead, because OS not supported by Nokia anymore, no new software will be published, community also dead. Actually, my N900 device also dead :) I see no reason to continue posting Mnesmoyne for Maemo platform. We should porting it to more popular platforms, such as Android or iOS. The best choice I see is creating WEB-based version of Mnemosyne using HTML5 technics. In this case it will be available on all mobile platforms.

That was also my original plan, but it turns out the html5 implementations,
even across different browsers on the same machine, are just not
standardised enough to get this working reliably. I tried a couple of months
back to get a html5 sound system implementation with the same functionality
as the desktop client, but neither chrome nor firefox mobile did what they
should do.

Next year, I will work on a client with native Android UI (running the
libmnemosyne Python backend), but somebody else has to take care of iOS...

Cheers,

Peter

I think, audio and video is not 'must have' feature for web-version of Mnemosyne. Text repetition will be enough. In that case web implementation looks simple.

Not sure many users would agree with the fact that audio is optional :-)

Also, you would need to reimplement everything from libmnemosyne in JS or
html5, and I'm not going there...

It's no need to reimplement libmnemosyne on JS. Web application could be written using python-based web framework (for example Django) with libmnemosyne as external lib. Web app should provide only REST API or simple study HTML page or both. That's enough to provide basic study functionality.

Ah, I understand what you mean now, because we're talking about different
things:

* you're talking about reviewing through a web brower, with the server code
running on a different machine. That is already implemented (although with
flaky sound support), and the webserver is even merged in the GUI in the
upcoming 2.3 release

* I was talking about a cross platform JS/html5 app that you could run
off-line on your phone without access to the internet.

Well, Nokia doesn't support it, but wouldn't say that the community's dead :)
Nevertheless, would you provide me some help porting python-cherrypy3 onto Fremantle (to run the latest Ubuntu version)?

Thanks
