When I try to run Mnemosyne, an error windows pops up with this message:

(Traceback innermost last):
File "mnemosyne", in line 155, <module>
File "mnemosyne\libmnemosyne\__init__pyo", line 189, in initialise
Database error: database disk image is malformed

I expect this may have happened because I removed the USB stick I use to store my Mnemosyne files without properly going through the 'safely remove hardware' procedure.

Is there anything I can do? I would hate to lose years of data and progress.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi,

Mnemosyne stores backups in C:\users\jeremy\appdata\roaming\Mnemosyne\backups, so just use file - open to select which backup you want to revert to.

If the error message prevents you from starting Mnemosyne altogether, just delete C:\users\jeremy\appdata\roaming\Mnemosyne\config (note that this directory is hidden, so you might need to change the settings of Windows explorer).

Finally, see here:

http://mnemosyne-proj.org/help/backups.php

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your advice.

Yes, this error is preventing me from opening Mnemosyne.

I tried to follow your advice, and delete the config file, but after doing so, I still get the same error.

Do I need to delete all of the config files, or just a particular one? Is there something else I can try?

Thanks again,

Jeremy

The name of the file to delete is 'config'.

Good luck!

Peter

Unfortunately, this doesn't solve my problem.

What if I were to simply uninstall and reinstall Mnemosyne, and then use one of the saved backup files?

Would that work?

Thanks again. I appreciate your help,

Jeremy

You can also try the prerelease of 2.3, it should no longer give a blocking error if the database is not accessible:
