Where to find Mnemosyne version 1 and how to export database back from 2 to it?

I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I could find Mnemosyne version one to install, and how to move my database back to it, now that the database extension has changed, without losing any of the card learning information.

  - Thank you for your time and consideration, Chris S.

The old web pages can be found at:

But there isn't really a path to downgrade a Mnemosyne database. I'm
sure that Peter will be able to fix the very annoying crashing problem
when he returns online. But, obviously, no one wants to get too far
behind on their repetitions.

Do you, by chance, have a J2ME or Android phone? You could try
exporting from Mnemosyne and doing your reviews on a mobile phone. (I
would send you a copy of Mnemododo; I'm not trying to make a sale!)

Or, if you are technically inclined, running Mnemosyne 2.x on an older
version of Windows or Linux in a virtual machine; assuming the problem
is Mnemosyne 2.x on Windows 7. Or even, using something like an Ubuntu
live cd to do the same thing. I don't suggest that this is ideal; it
would only be a temporary solution.

Otherwise,

Tim.

I don't have an Android phone, or a J2ME phone (I'm not even sure what that one is); but, I do have an IPod Touch, which runs just the same as an IPhone.  Will it run on that?

I did save the database in a separate folder in old format before I upgraded to 2.0, but it's hundreds of card reps behind, plus many new cards learned.

About the virtual machine suggestion, I am not technically savvy enough to try that one.  I don't know if it is due to the Windows version, though, because one of the posters on the other thread said they are running XP and having the same problem?

Thanks for all your suggestions.... I guess I could be patient and wait a while too, but not having the program makes me realize how much I rely on it for learning!  Thanks again, Chris S.

There is no way to downgrade back to 1.x.

Looking into the crashing problem is my top priority now, and I'll make a new test build tonight.

Are the crashes that frequent that it prevents you from studying at all?

It's a strange frequency. For one day, it would crash, I would restart, it would crash in two cards, and it did that repeatedly, and I gave up frustrated.  The next day I was able to get through about 100 cards before it crashed, so I thought I'd be patient and just try and get through as many cards as I could each day.  Today it let me get through about 15 before the freeze.  One thing which seems consistent, though, is that it seem to crash quicker and quicker if I try and restart it repeatedly?  If I give it a day, it seems to be in a brighter mood for a while. This makes no sense to me based on the little I know about computers, so I suppose it could be a coincidence of some sort.  The one other thing I was wondering about is if it has something to do with the autosave, because I put the autosave at "every 1 card" in order that I wouldn't lose information each time it crashed, but there have been a few times where I'll still be a few, even maybe 10 cards behind where I was when I open the program again.  No idea if this helps?

Thanks for your quick help; I'll be of any help I can - I would be glad to run any experiments you'd like me to try on my machine, if that could in any way help,  Chris S.

Peter, you asked "Are the crashes that frequent that it prevents you from studying at all?"

I've been keeping track for a week using the latest release. The average range is 10 to 25 cards at a time before it hangs, then restart as many times as necessary to finish the day's reviews. But sometimes it gets stuck repeatedly on the same card, and I can't get past it even with multiple restarts. Yesterday, for example, it showed one card (A, with multiple cloze elements) successfully then hung on the second card (B, also with multiple cloze elements) -- the same two individual cards for a total of 15 hangs. I couldn't get past it so there was no progress for the day. Today the same two cards hung, but it got past the blockage after the first restart. After another four cards, it again hung repeatedly on a different pair. So my progress for two days is six cards. (It is probably a coincidence, but the two cards involved now are sister cards of A and B, likewise in that order.) Overall, this is roughly the same as the problem which began in about beta 10.

By the way, when Mnemosyne hangs I can't switch to another program or the desktop. I can force the program to shutdown by clicking repeatedly on the X icon, after which I regain control of the computer. (Win7 x64)

OK. Please keep trying the new versions I post to the other thread. I will
probably post a new one tonight as well.
