Math Circle
UM-Dearborn Math. and Stat. Dept.
is pleased to present Maize and Blue Math Circle.
Maize and Blue Math Circle is a
weekly activity for motivated high school students to learn and practice more
mathematics with their peers and professors from UM-D.
Students interested in problem
solving, students wanting to do more mathematics, students wondering how
mathematics is used in real life, and students interested in competing for
local and national mathematics competitions are welcome to join Maize and Blue
Math Circle.
The circle is sponsored by our
department, NSF, MSRI and NSA and there is no fee for attendance. Students are
expected to register at the website before the first meeting. Teachers and
parents are welcome to attend and contribute.
The circle will meet on Tuesdays
(starting on September 22) from 4:15pm to 6:00pm. Pizza and soft drinks will be
provided.
For more information and
registration visit the circle's website.
There are many benefits of being
part of a math circle. Students will have direct interaction with professional
mathematicians and get a hands-on experience of how mathematics is done and
used in real life. Students will participate in specifically designed
activities to sharpen their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Students will be informed and trained for regional and national mathematics
exams, including prestigious mathematical olympiads. Students will find a
friendly place to nurture mathematical talent. The circle is not a standard
extracurricular activity or a tutoring session. It is geared toward students
who are interested in mathematics and ready to take their training to the next
level.
Sincerely,
