A Russian warning to Israel over Iran

http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/insidestory/2011/11/20111197192951360.html

Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister,
has described any possible Israeli military strike
against Iran as a "very serious mistake",
adding that such action would have
"unpredictable consequences".

Lavrov's comments followed a warning by Shimon Peres,
the Israeli president, that an attack on Iran is becoming
more likely.

It also comes after Western diplomats were briefed
on the latest report by the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA), which details Iran's nuclear capabilities.

The report includes allegations that Iranian engineers
have had Soviet training to build detonators for
triggering a nuclear chain reaction.

In the midst of rising tension and saber rattling
between Tehran and the West, could this be a
new phase in the confrontation with Iran?

And is the IAEA totally free from external influence?

Inside Story discusses with guests: Joshua Goodman,
a communications director at the Transatlantic Institute;
Mohammad Marandi, an associate professor of American
Studies at the University of Tehran; and Robert Kelley,
a former director of the IAEA.

Israel? Where were they in the Iraq invasion?

Hell, Bush's "Coalition of the Willing" included freaking Jamaica and
other useless pot holes.

When Canada and France refused to engage, there was an outcry from
right wing "patriots" over how we sucked!

Not a word about how Israel sat quietly be the sidelines and watched
others do their fighting for them.

Iraq was not a threat to the USA, but it was a threat to Israel.

Maybe it's time to let Israel do it's own gig. Hell, the USA throws
so much money in arms and shit at them that they have a good
military. Whjy should it be anyone else but them?

Home minding their business, as we asked them too, fool.

American soldiers arrived in Israel to also work with anti-missile
defenses, both the U.S.-made Patriot and the Arrow, developed by both
Israel and the U.S. On January 15, Israel moved to a higher than usual
state of alert, codenamed "Red Hail." According to an advisor to Ariel
Sharon, Zalman Shoval, this alert was planned before the looming war in
Iraq was close and does not mean that Israel has inside information on
when a U.S. attack will be.

In addition, the U.S. sailed an aircraft carrier, the Harry Truman, into
the Mediterranean Sea. The aircraft should allow U.S. planes to reach
Iraqi targets by flying over Israeli and Jordanian territory. Israel has
permitted the use of its air zones but Jordan has yet to grant the U.S.
permission to fly over its territory..

U.S. military units will stay in Israel until the end of a war with Iraq.

Israel's civilian preparedness for war includes the distribution of gas
masks and TV and radio instructions on what to do in the event of a
chemical or biological attack.

And if Israel had taken front and center the UNSC reaction would have been?

The CIA has confirmed, in interviews with detainees and informants it
finds highly credible, that al Qaeda's Number 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri, met
with Iraqi intelligence in Baghdad in 1992 and 1998. More disturbing,
according to an administration official familiar with briefings the CIA
has given President Bush, the Agency has "irrefutable evidence" that the
Iraqi regime paid Zawahiri $300,000 in 1998, around the time his Islamic
Jihad was merging with al Qaeda.

On February 13, 2003, the government of the Philippines asked Hisham al
Hussein, the second secretary of the Iraqi embassy in Manila, to leave
the country. According to telephone records obtained by Philippine
intelligence, Hussein had been in frequent contact with two leaders of
Abu Sayyaf, an al Qaeda affiliate in South Asia, immediately before and
immediately after they detonated a bomb in Zamboanga City. That attack
killed two Filipinos and an American Special Forces soldier and injured
several others. Hussein left the Philippines for Iraq after he was
"PNG'd"--declared persona non grata--by the Philippine government and
has not been heard from since.

According to a report in the Christian Science Monitor, an Abu Sayyaf
leader who planned the attack bragged on television a month after the
bombing that Iraq had contacted him about conducting joint operations.
Philippine intelligence officials were initially skeptical of his
boasting, but after finding the telephone records they believed him.

* No fewer than five high-ranking Czech officials have publicly
confirmed that Mohammed Atta, the lead September 11 hijacker, met with
Ahmed Khalil Ibrahim al-Ani, an Iraqi intelligence officer working at
the Iraqi embassy, in Prague five months before the hijacking. Media
leaks here and in the Czech Republic have called into question whether
Atta was in Prague on the key dates--between April 4 and April 11, 2001.
And several high-ranking administration officials are "agnostic" as to
whether the meeting took place. Still, the public position of the Czech
government to this day is that it did.

> but it was a threat to Israel.

Yes it _was_ and no longer _is_ see how that works, Achmed?

> Maybe it's time to let Israel do it's own gig.

Like they did on Saddam's nuclear plant?

Lol.

Rock on!
