Why is Pierce Brosnan's height a myth?

I just watched Momma Mia... and noted that he was nose to nose with
Meryl Streep and that Colin Firth towered over him by at least 5
inches. Brosnan is 5'9" at best...not 6'1"+ as "officially"
reported elsewhere.

Like Tom Cruise, Pierce is not very tall and should own up to it as
Tom's publicist does. After all, you should not live a lie and
denying your height sends off all sorts of alarms about masculinity
complex...etc.....

Anyway...he was always too cute to play James Bond and Timothy Dalton
was unduly maligned.

i've always thought timothy dalton to have been the best james bond.
although license to kill was a bit of a let-down after the living
daylights.

Hmm, I remember seeing him in a pub years ago (I used to work just down
the road from Pinewood*, so we used to see quite a few actors there) and
he didn't seem particularly short. Maybe Colin and Meryl were standing on
boxes, as they are the ones with height complexes? ;)

* must have been 1998-ish - so he was probably doing one of the Bond
movies at the time.

If you looK at all the full body shots at the awards and premiers, you'll see Meryl (5'6") in 4 inch heels and she's still much shorter than Brosnan. I bet he's 6'2"

We were at Hard Rock Cafe in Universal Studios eating dinner about 20 years ago. I had gone to the bathroom and when I came out I was stopped behind a roped-off section so he and his wife could pass the patrons to walk up to the top floor where a private party was going on. I use to be almost 5'7" and as he walked by he was shorter than I was and his wife was taller, though in heels. My husband was looking at me and had to make a smart-arse comment about how could James Bond be that short in real life? We were all a bit shocked. My sons saw it too. Why they cover his true height is beyond me.
