In the Sun Ray Center, just west of the 3M campus
at I94 & McKnight, is a *huge* thrift store. Unlike
the ones where our Lumberjack friend shops, it is
clean -- yesterday, they were wiping down the rods
of the clothes racks, fer golly pete's sake.

The ratio of clothes to the usual 'junk" is at like
70-30. And yet, their junk is better than most.

They organize all the clothes by size. They are
clean -- heck, sometimes they're brand new. And
if you know what's what, there are real gems to be
found at ridiculous prices.

Yesterday, I picked up 1) Pendleton wool shirt $3
(genuine Black Watch plaid, my of favorite all time),
2) Eddie Bauer flannel shirt $2.50 3) Columbia casual
button down shirt $3, 4) Field Gear (Marshall Field's
house brand...good stuff!) brushed twill shirt $3,
5) an italian-made merino wool polo shirt/sweater
$4, 6) Eddie Bauer cashmere sweater $3.

Twenty bucks very well spent. Any *one* of those
items would retail for at least $40. I wish I'd gone
on Monday when it is always Half Price Day.

Don't tell the pricing people. You can tell that they
think stuff from FUBU and the like is worth a
whopping $20.

Heh! That Pendleton wool shirt (long sleeve, button front, leather
patches?) was about $85 last time I bought one for Himself.

Too bad Sun-Ray's a hike from where I am; I'd check it out.

This one is more of a dress shirt and used to
go for $118 ...well, now they're selling for $82:

http://www.pendleton-usa.com/product/SIR-PENDLETON-WOOL-SHIRT/166284/fs/true.uts

If I've done the math right, I got it for less
than 4 cents on the dollar -- or a 96$ discount.

I'm not sure what's funny. Is it:

a) that the term "dress shirt" sounds a
bit oxymoronic -- combining a word for
a female's garment for the lower half
of her body with a word for a male's
garment for the upper half of his?

b) you're wondering why I would ever
even need a "dress shirt"?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dress_shirt

c) that wool could be considered a material
suitable for a dress shirt

It was surprisingly positive, he may
disavow ownership...

No, darlin' ïŋ― that the plaid in the link would ever be considered a
dress shirt. :-) Not in my head. Unless maybe it would be
something our resident lumberjack might like to wear for dress-up
occasions. "-)

Well, usually, tartans are generally
more associated with kilts rather than
shirts. However, I was referring to
the construction and fabric weight.

From my fund of arcane knowledge, the
"Black Watch" tartan is also the "Ancient
Campbell" pattern...

I went there to try it out.

The restrooms stunk and have no ventilation. There were 20 people
waiting in line for a fitting room. Parents weren't controlling their
kids. The merchandise was run-of-the-mill.

Overall, a wasted trip.

Oh, and you forgot to mention that they
don't sell PCs there (I actually heard
an idiot complaining about that).
