Well here I am again ANARCHIST God of all to voice my dissatisfaction with the
worst state in the union. Minnesota or so commonly called Shitesota. On an
almost daily basis I am forced to contend with complete and utter
idiocy, inferiors and common dribble from a bunch of hayseed farm-fucks. I
constantly hear people say" I was born and raised in Brainerd" GEEEEEEZ do you
have to further embarass yourself by admitting it?

This state is at least 20 years behind the times in technology; the mere
mention of the terms 3-Way calling, Caller ID brings about bewilderment in
the majority of the populous. The styling of custom cars is also about 10 to
15 years behind my home state of California; lowrider mini-trucks are just
making an appearence here. These mini-trucks are styled the way they were
in their begining in Calif about 15 years ago. High School kids think that
they have Ferraris when they build their hotrods other wise known as "Brainerd
Cruisers" Olds Cutlass Supreme, Buick Regal, Chev Monti Carlos. YUCCCCCHHH.

The hobbies around this state are unmentionably BORING damn it!!! i.e
1) Ice fishing
2) Snow Mobiling
3) Deer Huntimg
These people act like they invented the sports, like Minnesotans could ever
come up with an idea all of thier own!!!!! Hearing stupid songs on the radio
about "A 30 point Buck" Big fucking deal, wake up people and get a clue!!!

Now let us face reality here boys and girls Minnesota IS SHIT and a bunch of
inferiors. I can't understand why I must have to contend with such aresholes.

Opinions welcome, Flames encouraged!!!!!! This goes for you too Don Lloyd you
stinker of a shithead you!!!

Yikes. I'm embarrassed that I'm from the same state as you!

I can't believe I (of all people) am about to defend this state (which
has the worst drivers in the universe, some of the rawest weather around,
and an awful lot of people who are a pure waste of skin), but...

Okay, fellow Californian, when's the last time you dashed into a fastfood
joint...and left your car unlocked (and found it still there when you
returned). When's the last time your mind blew a gasket groovin' on the
amazing palette of colors of autumn leaves? When's the last time you went
for a walk in a fresh snowfall and listened to the crisp soundlessness
of an icy winter day?

Every place has its joys and it downfalls. I understand your perceptions;
we share some of them. But if you're here, ya might as well make the best
of it.

Besides, dearie--Fargo (and to a lesser extent Grand Forks) is really a

------You're complaining about living someplace without lowriders. What
the hell is your problem? Low riders are just one of many ignorant
concepts that make life suck. If I could drive down the road without
having the bass of rap "music" pump my damn head off ---coming from a low
rider a mile away with some dumbass teenager who thinks he is a gangsta
badass ----- only to one day realize that he really fucked up his car,
because he wanted to be like snoop dog(go figure)----- maybe then life
wouldn't suck. Sorry about the run-on, proper grammer is another thing
that makes life suck.

This hick empire is vaster yet! Minnesota is the chief province of an
annexed hick nation that runs all the way to Idaho to New Mexico to
Kansas, and then back on up to Minnesota.

With the possible exception of Colorado standing alone as an independent

Me being from Minnesota have always believed that Wisconsin has much better
scenery except it's hard to beat the scenery in the Boundary Waters and
Voyager Park in Minnesota. But you'll never be able to escape the fact that

Good Lord, Debbie! How did you ever end up in little old St. Cloud?

I am truly perplexed at how an avowed sun-stater like you could have
wound up in such a place? Are you trying to obtain some sort of
education, or are you just gracing the rest of the state with your
presence -- sort of a diversity thing?

Seriously, though, it seems to me that you just might be a tad frustrated
from living too far out I-94 from the *real* obnoxious life here in the
cities. Come down and party sometime, blow off steam, or whatever.

Remember, Minnesota beats Alaska in the winter....

Been there -- I second the recommendation.

If you like Thai, I recommend Sawatdee on Washington just West of 35. Their
dishes are offered in various degrees of HOT with ratings of 1 to 5. I can
barely eat a 3 and there aren't too many other restaurants where I consider
the food very hot at all.

There are also quite a few good Vietnamese restaurants around (I like Kinh

(Eden Prairie and Minnetonka), though it's not a cheap place to eat.

I agree that quality oriental cuisine can be hard to find here, but
Crystal Garden in the strip mall at Minnehaha Parkway & Hiawatha in Mpls
has an excellent selection, including painfully spicy kung pao dishes.
What exactly _is_ chow mein anyhow?

BTW, there are far more strip malls in LA than in Minneapolis. Even

indoor malls, while LA was busy with lesser feats like freeways.

Sawatdee is great for hot food. 4 is what I usually ordered.
I used to think Sawatdee was best until some SE Asian folks
took me to the Royal Orchid (Nicollet, 18th and Nicollet)
It has alot more subtle seafood flavors in their food besides
just hot chillies, holy basil, and lemon grass.

Here are some more interesting restaraunts:

Yangtze - St Louis Park (dimsum on Sunday mornings)
Seafood Palace - 25th & Nicollet (nice seafood)
Bona - Stadium Village (try letter "E" w/ spring rolls)
Ming's Garden - Plymouth (great soup)
My Le Hoa - Little Canada (Cantonese stuff pretty good)
Sajya - St. Paul, Grand ("inexpensive" sushi/sashimi)
Taste of Saigon - Duluth, canal park (my favorite)

Please share more interesting Asian resturants.

Other good Chinese restaurants include the Red Pepper out by Southdale and
the Great Wall, which is over on France Ave. in the 40's, if I remember
correctly. And there are a number of good Vietnamese places in the Twin
Cities; I just tried one in the Hi-Lake Mall on Lake Street, and I was
very impressed.

I haven't spent much time in the Midwest, and about all I've really seen
of it is the Twin cities, so maybe that's not a good standard to judge
by. But I can't figure out in what sense you are talking about. Certainly
not political - Minnesota is full of Liberals and most of the area you
mentioned votes GOP. Certainly not ethnic - while the area is
predominanlty of homogenous German stock as far south as Colorado, once you
get past Colorado you find areas of predominantly Anglo, Native Indian, and
Spanish settlement. Certainly not in terms of Climate or topography. And
not even culturally speaking - Minnesota has the fewest Rednecks of any
of the places within the borders you delineated.
So pray tell, what _does_ Minnesota have in common with those other places?
All I can think of is that up til 300 years ago, Minnesota - then known
as Tseehistano - was the chief Province of most of that region, which
was the stamping grounds of the Tseetseestie (Cheyenne). They kept their
permanent settlements alongside the Minnesota rivers where they raised
maize, until the Sioux drove them off beginning around 1680.

The times I've eaten there, it was a *good* thing. Talking to people who

used to work at restaurants can put you off almost any restaurant. I was a
bus boy for a week at Tavern on the Green in New York City; I'd never
choose to eat there.

(Hi Phil!)

LAst time I was out in CA on business (shudder) seemed like the
place was wall to wall lowriders (lets take a large boat and see
if we can't hose the suspention even more!) and crappy roads.
Everywhere. Really, I've seen a more run down and undersized
road system in my life, and I've driving through Kanas in the
summer time.

I think it's faded from its glory days; these days, I'd go with Village Wok
(eschewing its forgettable soups, and remembering that they're unreliable
about when things will be ready) or Red Pepper (a little more expensive, a
slightly smaller menu).

It all depends on the kind of Chinese food you like - Five-Spice Squid or La
Choy! :)))))

Seriously, the Village Wok has had consistency problems every so often. I'm
there so often that the owner knows me, and I can complain to him.

I found that the Shuang Cheng in Dinkytown is more consistant and offers more
seafood choices...

There is also another Chinese restaurant with an extended menu. I don't
remember what the name is, but it is sited where the old Khan's Mongolian
Barbeque in Dinkytown is...Yup, right around the corner from the Shuang Cheng.

I've been there a couple times for lunch -- the egg rolls are good, but the
hot and spicy chicken is _way_ too sweet for me (next time I'll try

The Eden Restaurant in Eden Prairie is good, but they're only open for

Phoenix? Hoy. Have you tried to get decent Scandinavian food in the

If you're looking for authentic Mexican, try Me Gusta on Lake Street
around 4th or so in Minneapolis. There's also a great panateria on 28th
Ave. just off Nicollet. St. Paul's Mexican neighborhood has some quite
authentic places, too.

My personal favorites are Perfume River and Vina; the "beef and

People always seem to get excited about Lotus, but I think that's

The lunch entrees at the Cam Ranh Bay have too much sauce and the sauce is
too strong. I usually have to drain my food, and I've complained to them
about it. I generally order the "bun" (accent grave on the "u"). It is stuff
(like port or chicken) over rice noodle and fresh vegetables.

As for the Eden, I do like their lunches, and they are reasonably priced.

Frankly, ANARCHIST, I suspect -- no, I **know** -- that you wouldn't be happy
anywhere. I'm sure you complained royally about conditions in CA when you
were there, and you'll be just as unhappy with the next place where you live.
If you were in Paris or Rome you'd complain that the slobs there didn't know
how to fix decent Chinese.

For me, I'm proud to be a Minnesotan. I've lived in Kentucky, Ohio, and New
Jersey, and visited just about the entire east coast, San Francisco, LA, and
many points in-between. (Not to mention Canada, Norway, Sweden, and
Denmark). Of all those places, the only other area that really appeals to me
(beyond Minnesota and adjacent states) is the upper New England area, but that
area is too economically depressed (and too right-wing). So, I've **chosen**
to live in Minnesota.

You complain that "sports" in Minnesota consist of such things as ice fishing
and snowmobiling. Well, I think that's fantastic. Minnesotans, especially
those of fifty or a hundred years ago, have faced adversity and turned it into
a lifestyle. It doesn't take much character to lounge by the seashore or play
one-upmanship going to the latest, most fashionable restaurants. It **does**
take character to bear sub-zero cold in order to hunt or fish or exercise. Or
even to just enjoy the sunset.

Try as I might to not have sympathy for you, I simply can't help feeling sorry
for you. You're bitter and angry at the world, and you'll probably stay that
way the rest of your life. You'll miss a lot.

You'll miss the beauty of pheasants scurrying across the road in front of your
car. You'll miss the majesty of fields of grain, literally making waves like
a sea in the wind. You'll miss the elegance of snow, drifting across
the road in serpentine swirls. You'll miss the indescribable brilliance of
the September sun shining on a field of golden corn. You'll miss the
delicious incongruity of tiny Southeast Asians dressed in winter clothes and
enjoying winter in the state THEY have chosen.

Maybe Minnesota isn't the place for you. Maybe LA is. But you won't be able
to appreciate either place until you recognize that your own bitterness and
anger is poisoning you. You've got to stop and smell the roses instead of
complaining about the thorns.

But, as Thanksgiving approaches, I have to thank you for reminding me how
thankful **I** am to be in Minnesota.

Yeah right, I have lived in every state except Alaska, and while CA is
interesting to VISIT, it is DEFINATELY not a place to live, you don't see
crazies running amuck in the cities in MN, you also do not have lifelong
panhandlers clogging the cities of MN (true there are a FEW, as there are
anywhere, but not whole mini-cites of them like there are in CA), in most
of MN you can leave your property in your car and leave it unlocked and
come back to find EVERYTHING in its place, in MN there are at LEAST 2 or
3 animals or birds or other such wildlife when compared to CA or WA for
that matter, you can purchase a realistic sized home for 1/10th the price
of what it costs to pay for a shit-single room in CA, CA is far too full
of people to the point that you are breathing the farts of others........

As to fucked up areas, heh, point out ONE place in CA that is not
fucked up and PROVE it, I will be extremely suprised if you could be able
to PROVE it, unlike MN... what's wrong, not enough parties for the baby
