There is an interesting article in the latest issue of QRP Quarterly on the LarcSet 40 meter CW/SSB transceiver kit.

It is available for $39 plus shipping at:  https://www.hfsignals.com/index.php/larcset/

You can get the schematic and user manuals at: https://github.com/afarhan/larcset/

It looks like a design that could be easily modified for those interested in experimenting.

I would be interested in participating in a group buy if some of you want to get the cheaper price.

Count me in on a group buy.  It looks like a great deal from a couple of designers who know what they are doing.

Thanks,

That's an interesting concept. I like the prewound trifilar xfrmr and the presoldered surface mounts. (just call me shaky).

And my attenuator may have feet of clay. Does not have a 50  ohm input impedance. I've attached my simplified schematic - omitting all switches. Each 3 resistor section can be selected separately, or any combination can be combined.via individual switches. I may get one in any event, but thought that I'd pass that along.

Harry,
I find this non-50 Ohm attenuator very odd.  Can you post the make and model?
Tnx
Bob

Sign me up for a LarcSet kit if it helps get to the discount threshold. (I'd like one either way.)

Steve and the group:

I have a conflict, so won't be able to make the June meeting on Saturday.  But I would be willing to help out with the group order in any way that might be helpful.  So if there is a list made up, we can talk later about collecting and ordering, etc.

Thanks,
Ken N0HRL

You can find it here

The more I read about it, the more I wondered....

I'm not sure if it ever really works.

Welp. I looked it over and it's strongly set up for 40 - which I might get to someday. I looked up changing the frequency and it's a non trivial process.

I guess that there's a very active group of LARC users. There's a good description of issues and fixes here

Interesting rig. Just doesn't fit right now.

I'd have to pull out my RF Circuits book to remember the details, but both the Elecraft version I built and this qrpkits verison should be a 50 ohm attenuator provided you have a 50 ohm source and a 50 ohm load attached.

You can play around with resistor values here: https://leleivre.com/rf_pipad.html

Thanks for adding actual science!  When I was trying to figure it out, I didn't add a load R.

Ah! now I remember: the parallel combination of R1 and R2 has to be ~50 ohms for the attenuator impedance to match the input/output in both directions.

I would buy one.

LARCSET Group
Item #: 18-larcset_group
$175.00
$175.00

$175 for 5 kits, including shipping

If Steve wants one, that makes 5 people interested:  Steve, Mike, Allan, Ken and Tom.
If everyone agrees to the $35/kit price, I can place the order.  Let me know.

You can put me down for a kit also if someone is ordering.

Now that I've read over the QRP Quarterly article on the LarcSet I am interested too.

I'm happy to order on my own but will hold off to see how interest pans out in the club. If you need another to fill out a group of five, count me in. Or, drop my name if you reach 11.

Steve - that was an amazing video on pcb production! Can you share a link?

I added Steve Ulrich to the LARC kit order list.
That makes the total now 9.

I placed an order with HFSignals.com for 2 x 5 =10 kits. I will pass along shipping information when available.  Should ship within 5 days.

Tenth unit is up for grabs.

Once I receive the kits, send me the $35 via check to address below or pay via PayPal using my personal email address

You are welcome to pick up your kit at my place or I can bring them to the next club meeting.
