Because I am not going to be able to attend the Aug 1st club meeting, I picked up my kit and have started to slowly work through it.  Just thought I would give a little progress report, in case anyone else has also started.

I have completed the first two stages.  It is nice that they give you the ability to do some simple tests to make sure you are on track at each stage.

I have a working audio amplifier (stage 1).  I hear the noise in headphones go up and down as I turn the volume control. So that was nice.

Then I wound and installed the toroid for the VFO, and I was able to verify hearing the VFO on another receiver going between about 3800 and 4140 Khz or so.  Also a great verification step.
I chose not to glue down the VFO coil yet, as I am still thinking about what range in the 40 meter band I want the radio to cover to potentially be able to do both LSB and CW.  If I decide to move it, I can remove a turn, or slide the turns together or farther away.

Next step is bigger, soldering in crystals, and 5 more toroid coils (three already wound as they come with the kit).  Then put in the BNC connector and should have a receiver.  That will be cool!

So hope others have some reports as they get to building.
