Hi,
I've whined about my MFJ apartment antenna. But, it might be OK if I could connect to the coil quickly and reliably.
It seems to have a relatively narrow bandwidth -- on 40 I would need to change it for WSPR and SSB, Other bands are likely the same.
I've attached a pic of the coil. The original clip was worthless. I'm using a Pomona 'grabber', but it's still pretty frail. It's also easy to get lost if you just want to slide the connection a little one way or the other.
The other piece of PVC in the pic will fit over the coil and slide up and down it, if I mount
four 1/4 inch square dowels for it to rest on. I would like to have a probe that I can screw down (a spring type would be even better). The idea is that it would just press on the coil wire and not need to clip around it. I would also like to be able to move it along the coil wire as well as up and down. That would probably need multiple probes that I could clip on to as needed. Finally, it needs to have something to hold the whole thing in place once it's adjusted. Maybe some kind of plastic screw that would just press on the coil.
I'm having trouble coming up with any good methods -- when it comes to mechanics I know a fair amount about electronics:). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - including something totally different from what I've described.
Thanks and 73,
