We currently have fetch TV with iinet and are thinking of cancelling our service with them. Does anyone know what happens to the Fetch TV hardware we have, since they do not offer Fetch TV anymore would we still have to return it?

Call support at 13 22 58 and ask to be directed through to the Fetch/IP TV team. Support CANNOT cancel or arrange for Fetch terminations. Keep in mind that if you're under contrat for fetch break fees may apply see

Hopefully this is the right thread, I couldn't find a better one. I have Fetch, have had it for almost 3 years now I would say including the provided hardware, but I've noticed that there is now a Fetch TV mini.

If I purchased one of these Fetch TV minis outright from a retail store could I simply plug it in and it would work or does the set top box specifically have to be one provided by my ISP? Even if I'm continuing the same internet service?

Correct. Plug it in, turn it on. However, the Fetch TV service on your current device is not the same as that on your Mini. You may want to cancel the service on your current box and start anew on Mini.

What he means is that you will need to pay on a differant subscription to fetch tv to get the subscription channels on the fetch mini and it will use data, alternatively you can record programs on the gen2 box and access them through media hub on the mini and watch them that way.

If you are still looking to cancel your service then you will likely need to return your set top box. Some customers purchase their set top box outright when they sign up, in which case they do not need to return it as they own it, however the vast majority of our customers choose to rent the hardware from us. If the set top box has been rented then upon cancellation of the service it does need to be returned to us in order to avoid a non-return fee (which is usually the cost of the hardware itself). Customers with rental hardware may also be under contract, so it would be worth checking this before processing any cancellations.

As advised by anotableabsenceofhat, if you still wish to cancel please contact us on 13 22 58 and we can discuss the options available to you. Also, the hardware is ISP-dependent, which means that hardware used for iiNet TV With Fetch cannot be used for any other Fetch provider (for example, Optus).

I called up almost a year ago now and asked why I was being charged for fetch when it doesn't give me extra channels anymore, and they said they don't do it anymore, and the $10 monthly was for the HD box that takes 30 minutes to start up.

Fair enough, but I was going under the assumption that the situation had not changed (ie TPG continued to disallow Fetch TV). It's not exactly something I keep track of on a day-to-day basis. As for it still being on the iinet website, I thought (incorrectly) that the Fetch TV stuff was still up there for supporting older users.

Thanks skypuppy. I don't know if this is related but the (android) app updated recently and when I attempted to use it I couldn't get it to accept the activation code from the STB. Prior to the app update I was able to connect and control the STB from the app.

I think there is a firmware release for iiNet supplied Fetch TV's today.
A retail FetchTV should have already received the update.
After the update the app connects without issue (after initially entering the FetchTV activation code).

As pointed out by Harry W and SkyPuppy a firmware update has been deployed for iiNet TV With Fetch set top boxes. This will allow you to sync the Fetch app with your set top box again using the new authentication procedure (find your code by going to menu>manage>settings>mobile and tablet).

My updated Fetch tV app on an iPad iOS 9.3.5 (with a ten digit Fetch activation code) does not appear to be working for Mystuff (recordings of previous free-to-air tv broadcasts) as it used to for the previous version of Fetch tv Mobile app with a six digit activation code.

Apparently once the iinet Fetch Upgrade is applied to the Fetch set top box Bios, it is not possible to use the old TV Fetch mobile app either, as the six digit activation code is no longer able to be applied to Fetch TV mobile when pairing a mobile device to the set top box.

Additional mob device: iphone 4s iOS 7.1.2 with the old version of the Fetch tv app still functions (somewhat) but does no longer work for Mystuff i.e. recordings as it can no longer be paired to the set top box with a six digit access code, since post Bios Upgrade the set top box now reports with a ten digit activation code. i.e. setoff box activation code 10 digits & Mobile device only has space for a six digit activation code.

Free-to-air TV channels still list the tv guide in easy to read format, but watch live, mystuff, play /record free-to-air etc don't work as "no set top box connection" (i.e. not paired as no 6 digit activation code avail any longer) but obviously "Movies Now Showing" does still function in Watch Live function.

If you're having trouble working out what the new app will and won't do, there's a User Guide available for download here:
-TV-App-Guide.pdf
(The fact that the new app actually needs a User Guide says a lot about how bad the app design is, in my opinion!)

There's a couple of things that can cause this, but usually it just needs a setting to be updated either on our side or in the modem. Our iiNet TV With Fetch team should be able to look into this for you, and can reached directly on 1300 701 006.

called earlier today. Fetch team could not help and put me through to tech Support. I believe they have now updated the setting from your end. I just need to restart the box when I get home from work and hope this fixes the issue. Thanks for your reply Chris

Check your invoice if you are supposed to get the $10 monthly incentive credit for the two year free Fetch Deal from about 18 months ago. For the second time in the contract they did not apply the credit and I had to contact billing to fix.

I know that the last reply here was a while ago, but has there been any movement on this? I was looking at getting the fetch tv box with iinet as they are throwing it in for free with some of their plans at the moment.

I still wonder whether the route of Google Assistant custom actions could work. The currently available Google Assistant integration (via the voice interface) under the cover would issue some custom commands created by the Fetch TV team. So if we can mirror these same commands we should have a way to replicate these controls, right?
