Any of the naughty people with jailbroken iPhones who subscribe to
this list might want to download pdanet from their cydia repository of
choice... (use the search function in cydia to find "pdanet")

It's a neat little app that turns your iPhone into a wifi access point
for internet access by other devices... MacBook, hackintosh NetBook or
whatever.

And further to Dom's email on 12 Sept regarding the MSI Wind / Advent
4211, if anyone has bought one to experiment with OS X, I have it on
excellent authority that the Apple Mac Pro Airport Express Upgrade Kit
- Apple part number MA668Z/B or /A - is a perfect fully OS X
compatible replacement for the wifi card that comes in the unit as
standard.

I've installed it but not used it yet. Does it do what it's supposed to?

Cheers,

Richard

I have spotted Richard's question in response to my original post on
the google groups page but have not received his email yet. Richard
was asking whether pdanet does what it's supposed to.

Short answer is yes. Very easy to set up... Just create an ad hoc
network using your Mac and connect your iPhone to it. Then launch
pdanet on the iPhone and the Mac is magically connected to the
Internet. Web browsers, email clients etc all work fine. Haven't tried
anything more esoteric like iChat or bittorrent yet, but will give
them a go and report.
