Printer/Scanner suggestions

Various Apple 'upgrades' have bricked my Canon flat-bed scanner HP Officejet printer.
Can anyone recommend a combined replacement? I bought a HP 2710e which has given me a whole new world of pain what with being wireless only, and it's determination to lock me into their cartridge renewal system.
Ideally I would like to go back in time and have the old OS, as that is, I think, at the root of my problems. But it seems to be incompatibility of 32/64 bit systems that's giving me grief.
Any help/advice from the group to restore my flagging sanity much appreciated!

Is it the scanning or the printing that is the problem, or both?

Why not use VMWare with a version of macOS that works with your printer? Give access to a shared folder where you drop your print jobs( depend g on which apps you use you may have to print to PDF if they won’t run on yne VM)
VW Fusion player is free for personal use
