I hope someone cleverer than me can help with this.

I'm still on MacOS 11.7.10 'Big Sur' because it won't update any further. The computer is mid 2015, although the startup disc is dated August  2019 - I don't know if that is relevant.

I have now got trouble with Quicktime - it starts as default and opens a load of black screens which are meaningless to me.

I understand QT is a rather integral part of the OS, and difficult to actually remove, but surely I can stop it opening as the default? Or maybe just disable it?

I've tried to stop it opening with no success, and I can't change the default status.

As usual, all help gratefully received, and Happy New Year to us all!

Hi Alasdair,

When is it opening, on Startup or when you double click something?

If on Startup then check your Start up items or Login items in System Preferences. Could be in the Users bit of system prefs.
If when double clicking - right click on a MOV file or MP4 and choose Open With and scroll down to Other. In there you can specify the App to use when opening that type of file and click the 'Always Open With' option to change the default.

Hope this helps

Cheers and HNY
Ben
