So can we or can't we put our own RAM in the mini, has there been
anything about this?

If yes then Crucial 1GB DIMM is a much better option that the Apple
equivalent.

Developer discount is 20% on most things, except the mini where its
only 5%

It can be changed, but you have to get it done by an apple authorised
reseller from what I can gather [go Native I guess]

Yeap we can put our own RAM in without breaking the warranty as long as we don't break anything whilst in there :-)

Crucial RAM is MUCH cheaper and brings my top spec machine down nearly £100

hard disks - correct me if i'm wrong but i think the mac mini uses 2.5" hard
disks (a la laptop stylee) ?

i cant find anywhere on the apple website that states what physical size the
internal hard disk is - it just states the technology ie ulta ATA.

another reason to get the imac G5 as it uses the faster serial ATA
technology. the largest internal serial ATA hard disk i can find is 400gb !
2.5" drives only go up to 100gb.
