Greetings,
I recently acquired an old G4 Quicksilver PowerMac (800mhz PPC chip).
I've found a 2nd hand processor card with a 1.25Ghz chip on it and am
toying with the idea of upgrading. How straight forward would
upgrading be? I get the impression from other sites I've looked at
that I need to upgrade the firmware on the Motherboard before hand?
Not having any experience with Macs in this area I don't even know if
the upgrade is doable.
Does anyone have any experience in this area?

OK,
Not sure why this took from the 29th of October till now to arrive
but, as a consequence, the question is largely meaningless cus the
upgrade part got sold.
Sigh.
