"The Waste Land" treads on some of the same ground that Pound did in
"Mauberley," the state of western civilization in the aftermath of
World War I. Through this lens, how is Eliot commenting on what has
happened and what will happen?

In my opinion i think Elliot is trying to assume history will repeat
itself. The wastland talks about how society lived and survived during
the world war and how bad and good it was. The hardships, the
endurances, and rewards that society experienced explains how we can
take action upon it and make sure it doesn't happen to us again.
