What did you think of "Outcasts of Poker Flat"? What examples of
regionalism did you find in this short story?

I think the "Outcasts of Poker Flat" is a great short story. This
reading reminds me of a good old western movie. When the people in the
town were bullied by the people at the gambling hole. They would try
to kill them, because they thought everyone who was winning at the
time was also cheating. Most likely some of the people really were
cheating,But they never would get caught.Over all i really enjoyed
reading this short story. Mostly because i like to wacth western when
i'm chilling at home and there's nothing to do.

Outcasts of Poker Flat was confusing to me. An example of regionalism
that i found in the story was when they told Oakhurst he had to leave
the city

I really enjoyed Bret Harte’s "Outcasts of Poker Flat.” I thought that
the story was interesting the way the “outcasts” of this town pulled
to gather and gave up everything for each other. I believe that there
is a little romanticism in this story along with realism.

i actually enjoyed "outcasts of poker flat", because i enjoy playing
poker,
although the majority of the story doesn't involve it.. haha.
the story had the setting of an old western movie, which was
a good change from previous stories... it was actually interesting to
read.
examples of regionalism could be where they asked him to leave
because he won too much, or how they were always trying
to run other people out of the town

I think that Outcasts of Poker Flat is a great story that shows alot
about the way life was back in time. But the thing that i didn't like
in the story is that the guys fiance died and it was really sad that
she died and she really didn't have much significance in the story.
He shows regionalism by the way the people acted to their surrounding
and to other things that were part of the terrain. He talks about how
the towns thrived on each other and how they used each for help.

I liked "Outcasts of Poker Flat". It was an interesting story and had
a mix of characters who really showed different colors throughout the
story. I thought the author used regionalism because he wrote it like
he was really in the old west. You cant tell that there is a certain
theme there and it sets the scene for the plot and the series of
events that follow the main character throughout his journey. The
story was probably one of the best I've read so far in this class.

I liked it because each character was fully developed and the story
was well developed.

To me this is the most interesting story we have read so far this
semester and it actually keep my attention, which is amazing. Also
regionalism was showed throughout the poem because the author actually
made you feel that old west style of living and drinking and gambling.
Also he showed you how these cities where used basically just to mine
get the gold and move on. And if you wasnt with the program you was
outcast because you was contradicting the entire reason of being there.

The story was old fashion and I was interested in reading it. The good
points were that the town show good recognition of brotherhood. The
bad thing was that the woman died. The peole of the town acted from
that and became very religious.

The "Outcast of Poker Flat" was an interesting story. It exemplifies
the old days, when people were exiled from their home towns because of
frauds committed. A lot of Drama was involved in this story, and
towards the end we observe "The Duchess" and Piney dies, locked in
each other's arms. Which I thought was putty sad.

Poker Flat was a good story to read because it was written easy enough
for me to read comfortably. It was cool to read about someone who
gambled and was really good at it and did no wrong but was exiled
because he was "good at gambling" and had to leave along with other
people who society didn't like because they didn't like them for who
they were and what they did. An example of regionalism was then John
Oakhurst was exiled from Poker Flat along with the Dutchess, Mother
Hampton, and Uncle BIlly.
