Hi JC and 2C,

I am no more a representative this year but as an ex-MMCC member, I wish to request you to do the needful as requested by other members like Mr. Shon Yadav, Mr. Gaurav Agrawal and Mr. Malay Shah. It is so simple to conduct a mess registration if you wish to do.

You have the numbers with you. I mean default BTech's (DD's) will not be there, most of the MTech's will leave the campus after exams. Out of those categories, not more than 200-400 will register for vacation mess. If you think there will be a problem in conducting registration for those 200-400 students, make their registration offline where as for MS and PhD scholars, an online registration can be implemented.

I made this suggestion based on our current practices. In general, if people don't register for messes during registration. The registration is being done for them offline in hostel offices. Hence, I request you to conduct a mess registration for MS and PhD students where as for others(treat them like unregistered students and conduct offline registration as we do regularly after every mess registration), offline registration.

I think you both will understand my point. If you still have a problem from administration, we can support you guys by raising our voice strongly in a meeting if it is held soon. I hope that you both have already taken enough measures.

A round of applause will be awaiting you both if you do the needful. :)

Hope a favourable reply!!!

With regards,
Murthy. Madugula

I agree that maybe there are difficulties in having a mess registration but this is unfair for the students who don't want to eat in a particular mess, but are forced to eat their.. Many cauvery resident's (including both SI and NI) don't want to eat in cauvery mess (including myself) as in last vacation(dec'13 to mid jan 14 ) many students ate their and were unhappy...  If online registration is not possible, students can do offline registration (like last year). So please arrange for a mess registration (I don't think so it can't be done ).. So it would be fair to all the students.........

I completely agree to the points raised by Gaurav,Malay and Shon. Forcing students to dine in alloted mess for  nearly 2-3 months will create rage amongst them nothing less than that. Please take decisions with some rationale to support your decision. Please make sure that mess registrations happen for vacation mess also.

Dear JC,

I don't think you have understood the gravity of the issue. Let me be very clear on that and reiterate the point which Gaurav and Malay is trying to convey; it is totally unfair to force a student to dine in a particular mess. The reason is, almost every research scholar stays in the campus for whole two and half to three months period and most of them do dine very regularly. Being research scholars, we understand the importance of the this food issue better than others and we do not differ with other research scholars' view on this too. I had to say this all because I have genuine doubt of few taking this issue lightly.
Coming to the issue, please note that we are talking about the choice of mess and not about the choice of the cuisine. If I understood correctly, you are trying to justify the unavailability of the choice of mess by giving the choice of NI or SI food. This does not make any sense. Also, I don't understand which numbers are you talking about as there used to be a registration for vacation mess before. Yet, I believe that you would really have a problem in conducting the registration but it would be better if you discuss more about the problem with us which would help us to understand it better. Also, if you are promising to have registration in case of students' objection to this scheme then take my word, students already have a problem. I can assure you that most of the research scholars would be against this. I personally would be unaffected by this decision as anyhow I would have opted for the SGR NI and being from Brahmaputra, I would get the same. But, there would be very unfair on the part of many students staying in the campus for whole hot summer to not get their desired dining option.

Thanks,
Shon.

Gaurav,

I will try to have a mess registration, but that cant be done immediately as we dont know the numbers. Once after the allotment if students have problems, I will surely have a registration in the middle.

Dear JC,

Here we are forcing people to dine in SGR. And also what if more than 100 students from Cauvery want to dine North Indian food or some other SI mess ? I did not get what is the issue with conducting a mess registration for vacation mess ? Anyway, the total seats are fixed, so those who register late, will dine in the vacant seats, as usual. Please see if it can be done, because last time also many of my friends who were forced to dine in Cauvery faced severe problems. I request you to  reconsider your decision on the same.

Regards,
Gaurav

Dear Gaurav,

It is not about forcing students to eat. My plan is all the research scholars from Krishna, Brahmaputra and 4 tower hostels will be allotted to SGR and then they can choose either South Indian or North Indian. From previous database, the number of students dining from these hostels were around 1500. They can choose between South Indian and North Indian.

Cauvery will be allotted to Cauvery students and the rest hostels among SK and Mandakini having Common menu.

If Cauvery hostelites want to have in North Indian, they can be shifted to SGR ( Max 100 people).

Hi,

My mail is regarding concerns over allotting hostel wise mess to students staying during the vacation period. My point is that research scholars/ M.Tech has to stay for almost all the period of the vacation, except the officially allowed 15 days leave. It would be really unfair to get to force them to dine in mess against their choice. I request the HAS to please explain the rationale behind this and I really did not understand that why this issue was not bought in front of MMCC before.

I also invite comments from other members of MMCC over my concern.

Dear Murthy,

I am working on having a mess registration at the earliest possible time. I have taken into all your inputs and have arrived at this conclusion. I will soon send a mail regarding the mess registration for vacations. I am just waiting for the WebOps team to say me date and time.
