Hey everyone,
We'll be meeting Wednesday @ 430pm at Key Hall 0106 this week. We'll craft some flyers and watch some sweet media clips before going out and flyering around campus.
Here's are 3 great media awareness clips on YouTube that we saw last week:
*Jon Stewart on CNN's Crossfire:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE*Frank Zappa on CNN's Crossfire (old but awesome!):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8ISil7IHzxc*Phil Donahue VS Bill(y) O'Reilly on the O'Reilly Factor:

1-*Minutes*In attendance: Adam, Steve, Christian
Agenda:
Promotional! aka why are there only 3 people at the meeting haha
So we have never done any serious PR beyond emails in the collective. Much of that came to a lack of funds, BUT we are applying for $500 from SGA for a one-time program help fund. We can make a ton of flyers, handbills, and posters that way. We are using the fund mainly to do our big spring program on April 18th.
But what can we do besides flyering???
*Tabling
**coordinate with community roots
*Use mediums
-freemix radio
-open mic (free speech)
-community call-in
-free publications
-tv
-radio
-computer
*Diamondback Inserts
*Index cards with factoids and put around campus
*Chalking
*Produce more packets like last semester
*Bubble from Bubble Project
*Make logo!
-We Will Not Be Silent Shirts
-stickers
ATTACHED are some flyers to use (play with them, edit them, whatever!)
And again, check these clips out!

3-*Tunnel of Oppression*Help is needed on the Media room of the Tunnel of Oppression. Check out the site for more info:
http://www.studentorg.umd.edu/umdtunnel/
Its a bit outdated but basically the Tunnel aims to bring awareness to various forms of oppression. Media was seen as something that can take that role so there is now a room devoted to it.
The three parts to the room break into:
1) An introduction to Media Oppression (stereotypes, advertiser influence, ownership, censorship, infotainment, and more)
2) "Spin Alley" (Jon Stewart uses the term in the above video link). This part focuses on news media and its significance.
3) The last part deals with empowering the audience which leads into the Tunnel's next, and last, room of resources to act on all the forms of oppression in the Tunnel.

The Continuing Media Assassination of Dr. King
A presentation by Jared A. Ball, Ph.D.
April 9, 2007
7-9p Nyumburu (Multi-purpose Room)
University of Maryland
April 4, 2007 marks the 39th anniversary of the physical assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
However, this physical death was preceded by a media one where the
image of King was reshaped into that of an enemy of the state and since
has been again reshaped into the hero who was in reality feared by this
country during his life.
Join us for a presentation and discussion of the true politics of
Dr. King, his relationship to international freedom struggles and that
pre/post-assassination of his image in US mainstream press. The
presentation illustrates King's suppressed politics and the fears they
instilled among this nation's power structure. All is traced through
the lenses of King's own words then via the FBI's Counter Intelligence
Program (COINTELPRO) statements followed up by a look at mainstream US
press coverage of King as exemplified by the Washington Post.--
