What Mentors Need to Know:
We are focused on the Financial Aid Process on March 13. See details on the purpose of this discussion and your role as a Mentor below:
Introduce financial aid to students and emphasize that need-based financial aid will be the strongest form of aid for our students.
This is information that should inform their college decision and it is critical to start talking about this now so our students can create a plan to make college affordable and potentially no-cost to them.
Here are resources you can review in advance of Saturday to familiarize yourself with this topic:
Higher Education Services Corporation: What is Financial Aid? (2 min read) & College Net Price Calculator (2 min read)
Questbridge: Financial Aid Overview (15 min read) & Financial Aid Glossary (10 min read)
There is no expectation that mentors will be experts, but that we can utilize these resources to find answers to our questions. Everyone’s situation is different, and next year students will work closely with their college advisors to unpack their situations.
Additionally, we will be running a 10 minute session with Colin on summer program fundraising for TLs and mentors. There will be two options - one 10 minutes before session and one 10 minutes after. We will be sending an invite to all TLs and Mentors for this session. Please make time to attend one of these sessions - your support is incredibly important!
