Hello MM Class of 2022!

I hope this email finds you well. Congratulations on completing Minds Matter’s Junior Program!

As you may recall, we previewed a Summer Checklist to prepare you for the Senior Program. Each month we will be offering some suggested actions items that you can complete over the summer to prepare you for senior year. This month, we will be focusing on connecting with your mentors and creating accounts on the Common Application and the FAFSA. Please make sure to read this email thoroughly.

Summer Programs Updates

  • Coursera: Invites to set up your learner profiles will be sent out this week. Please follow the instructions in the email to get started learning on the coursera platform.

Please complete ASAP (no later than May 31st)

Suggested actions due by May 31st

You can find detailed information about these steps in the Summer Checklist

  • Connect with your mentors

  • Create and store login information for these accounts:

    • The Common Application

    • Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID for students & parents in preparation for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

College Knowledge Tip of the Month: As you continue to identify colleges for your college list, see if they offer fly-in programs or diversity open houses for this fall. These are usually free or all-expenses paid opportunities for you to learn more about a college.

Additional (but encouraged) actions

  • Amherst, Bowdoin, Carleton, Pomona, Swarthmore, and Williams are putting our own rivalries aside, and hosting a series of virtual events about the college application process for students & families. RSVP here

  • For woman-identifying students: Women of Distinction is a program for rising high school seniors that highlights the opportunities at Smith College for African American, Latina, Asian American and Native American students. The application is due July 27th. If you have questions, email Tara tkali...@smith.edu

  • Share your interest in applying to Discover Swarthmore, held each fall, which is an all-expenses-paid overnight fly-in program for high-achieving high school seniors. Admissions pays for all transportation, meals, and on-campus housing expenses for students selected to attend one of these programs. Complete the nomination information form, and we will follow up with you about the application process. A MM nomination does not mean you will be selected for this program.

As always, please email us if you have any questions! Have a great summer!

Best,

Dan

p.s. I will be on vacation the week of May 24th through May 31st, so I'll try to get to any open emails before then.
