Hi Everyone,

With respect to last nights productive meeting, we are taking a rain
check on Software Freedom Day 2009, which was planned to be held on
25th September 2009. A time and place of the event will be finalized
later.

The reason for the delay is to get better support and more
preparation. Thanks for the valuable inputs from those who attended
the meeting, especially Coppey and Inn.

As per the meeting what we have in plan is to showcase Free Open
Source Software that is practical and needed for our development. The
event will be specially targeted for the IT Professionals both in the
Government and Private Sector.

Along that line find attached a document which outline the Software
that we will show, note, this is a tentative list and you are free to
suggest other software that you might think is necessary for
inclusion. Hope this document will provide a better picture of the
event and it's scope.

With this post, we are also inviting those who would like to help us
in configuring, setting-up and showcasing these software in the event.

We need all the help we can get.

As always feel free to update if I have missed anything.

Salam

Hi all,

This is just to propose an idea!

The future of computing as of the current trend is Cloud, and the door
way for that is Virtualization! So to setup the systems for the
Software Freedom Day we can use Virutalization! The easiest that I
have found so far is BitNami Images! http://bitnami.org/, these images
can be loaded into either VMWare or Virtualbox! I personally like
Virtualbox for its simplicity and repo based installation (a total
time saver)! However, BitNami do not have images for all the software
that we have in the list. In those special cases we can use JumpBox,
http://www.jumpbox.com/. However, JunpBox do not officially support
Virtualbox and so we have to go for VMWare. Awaiting for any comments
and suggestion!

As for the system setup we need 20 computer systems. These need not be
of too high specification, 1GB to 512MB would do!

The 7 Desktop systems will need 1GB and a NVIDIA or ATI graphic card
(For compiz)!

As for now we have 6 computer sponsored! The whole of this week is be
devoted to find additional sponsors!

Hamittey,

Thanks for the initiative, I have emailed a letter along with a link
for the proposal.

Anybody else who might need such a letter feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance
