Dear all,

please let me quickly introduce myself -

i am Sebastian from Germany/Denmark,

probably best described as "Wireless Networking / FLOSS / Solar Energy
Activist",
with my organisation

http://wire.less.dk

I thank the admins of this group for allowing me onto the list -

i will be visiting the Maldives as part of a research activity of a
danish NGO,
http://i-m-s.dk/

from October 25-31,

and i would be very interested to meet (some of) the MOSS group,
be that more formal or informal.

Should this be possible - please let me know through this list, or
through direct

mail: seba...@less.dk
twitter: less_sebastian

thank you,

kind regards,

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

We will be glad to meet you, usually our meetings are informal so
count on that. I guess your research would be on wireless networking.
Skimming through the book, WNDW, given the geographical nature of
Maldives we pretty much has the need for WN. However, I have got some
questions on the practical usability and limitations?

Right at this movement I am out of town conducting a training! So the
right person to contact would be either Inash or Soba via this mailing
list or use their email!

I will be back in town on 26, so if that sound within your schedule
give me a buzz #9911170 to arrange a quick meeting.

Salam

Hello Mr. Sebastian,

Welcome to the Maldives, MLUG and Maldives Open Source Society (MOSS)!
It's good to hear that you have chosen Maldives as part of your
research. Your website says that there were workshops already carried
out in some countries regarding the WN. I'm pretty much interested in
the book WNDW as it focuses on low-cost wireless networking and solar
energy. Scrolling down the pages I see, this book heavily concentrates
on open standards and free/open source software.
I'm sure your research would be of a great contribution as an initial
step in implementing such technologies here in the Maldives.
We can arrange a meeting with you on a date that you specify.
Should you require to contact me, dial at +960-794-0078.

Salam,
Ibrahim Sobah

Sobs,

Please inform MOSS members about this meeting. I'm sure all of us would be more than happy to see him in male and meet him.

regards,
Hamitte

dear all,

i have had a number of responses to my mail to the MOSS list,
for which i am very grateful - thank you all.

i would very much like to meet you.

most of all, i am coming to learn, hear -
as is the whole team of http://i-m-s.dk,
with whom i am visiting.

we will come to learn and study, and hopefully be able to help with good processes.

what i would most like to learn about is

* conditions for free networking in the maldives?
* concrete: can people freely share and extend network reach
e.g by means of sharing connectivity wirelessly?
* does connectivity reach outside the privileged few, the tourists, etc?
* the state of networks for research and education (RENs)
* the state of networks for free expression
* cultural aspects of networking/sharing/producing in the maldives
* thaana content
* combining sustainable energy and networks - keyword: solar networking

so, you can tell that my interests are both about the technical and the content/culture layer.

if it is of any interest to you, i would be happy to present

* the work of wire.less.dk, wirelessU.org, ICTP, NSRC
* experiences from wireless networking, capacity building
e.g in wireless africa, nepal wireless, the tanzania mesh
* the green book, http://wndw.net
    ** the content
    ** the book writing model
    ** translations
* mesh networking - (the idea of maldives island meshes sounds intriguing)
* my current main interest, solar/wind energy networks

+ we could always do some practical solar and wireless hacking :)

part of this could be as part of the IMS mission,
part of this could be just informal meetings.

my calendar will be

oct 26-29, monday - thursday = IMS work
oct 30-31, friday-saturday = free time

departure 22.20 on saturday

i can see that the MOSS group typically meets up on saturday -
so that would be an option for a bigger meeting
(as long as i can reach my flight back :) )

but also the friday for smaller meetings.

please let me know what would work best for you -

thank you -

best regards,

sebastian

Hello everyone,
It would be great to see all of us in this meeting. I guess the best
time would be 20:00hrs on Friday, 30 October 2008 at Dolphin. Those
who read this thread please do tell me if you have any other
suggestion. Shunan will add a notification in our event calendar.
As of now, assume that this is a confirmation.
I appreciate the support and interest of our members in our
activities.

Thanks
Ibrahim Sobah

hi all,

first of all, thanks for setting up this meeting - i m very much looking forward to it.

(it shows up in the calendar as 15.30h, though the mail said 20.00h ..(?) ... or is that google calendar timezone chaos?)

if you have any wishes about what i should present/talk about, then pls let me know.
but i feel i have some idea already -

wireless networking at large,
wireless activities in other countries,
mesh networking,
solar networking (my current main interest)
the green book, ... etc etc

i will definitely have a lot of questions myself and am looking forward to learning from you!

best,

sebastian
