Try searching google first.

When you say you are not able to access local network, we need to check the current existing set up as well. Are you running a windows based network or all *nix based network ? Even in both cases, "Samba" is the answer for you. But for setting it up right, i would still recommend you start doing your own research try searching a little bit.

I don't think Alex is new to Linux/Ubuntu. Even if he is, or not maybe
he wants to know our personal preferences and our own way of doing
things. There are many options. But Soul was right in we need more
specifics to help Alex's case. RTFM and "google it" is to be reserved
for obvious trolls.

We use Samba for connecting windows networks...

First you might want to attempt to manually mount a windows share. In
nautilus file manager, in the address bar type

smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = ip address, eg:

smb://192.168.1.22

You should see any shared folders on that machine.

In order for windows and other ubuntu systems to see folders on your
ubuntu box you must configure samba.

For basic info and setting up samba try this

Hope this is helpful
