Hi everyone,

The next meeting is 2 weeks from next Monday. I reset the attendance
list shortly after the last meeting and have just updated
https://mlug-au.org. Here's the URL for the online meeting anyway:
https://meet.jit.si/mlug-au

We have yet to schedule any talks: does anyone have something they'd
like to share?

Do put your name on the attendance list (on the website) if you'd like
to have an in-person meeting again this month. We only need 4 names,
mine's there already,

Cheers ... Duncan.

Thanks Malcolm, I've put you down for the first talk, title "A hardware
hack demo". Plesae LMK if you have a better title.

All:

There's still room for another talk. Any volunteeers?

There are 3 names on the list now. Can the next person to sign up drop
me an email so I know to book the venue.

Cheers ... Duncan.

I will put my name on list for attending in person.
Duncan can you please read this entire email before you do any actions. You may need a pen and paper to make short notes.
Could you finish the signup process for that website we looked at during last meet.
If need be, write down on paper what your username is so you dont forget but you wont forget because its an easy username.
If you could use this username: mlug
Dont worry if you think the username is too short etc and you dont need a password for this username because that is handled by the gmail validation of your gmail email or whatever email you where using last time.
Whenever you log in to this site you click onto the gmail button or whatever brand email youre using for validation login, but make sure you are logged into the email because a validation occurs for the login to the website.
Once youre in, the site will have some settings etc for you to complete before you are a full member.
mlug for the username
There is a filter setting for content that you like to block AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE YOU BLOCK MATURE CONTENT because we want to focus purely on art content and not NSFW or PORN (and this site has a lot of porn) but if you filter it out, your eyes will not be exposed to DISGUSTING porn.

NONE of the content can harm your computer because they are images and when you are ready to start generating your own images (which I will train you and other mlug members) all the generating is done by the website, you never install any software or anything to affect your computer.
Yes you can install the image generating models locally on your computer if you want BUT WE ARE NOT DOING THAT and if we where we would only install SAFETENSOR files, apparently one of the reasons why they are called SAFEtensor files is because they are safe. The models that are saved as a CHECKPOINT (.ckpt) could in theory have malicious code in it but if somehow that code escaped the online website's virus scanners (and they scan and monitor everything), the worst it could do is infect the webste that runs these models and not your computer.
Also dont rely on one comment made anonymously on reddit by one person. Ask the tech professionals if you have any concerns and you will find truth.
More info on safetensors format: https://wiki.civitai.com/wiki/Safetensors

There are many different websites that host these models (if you want to install them on a computer one day in the future), but there are only 3 websites that are trusted by the community to not host fake.malicious versions of the model files. Never use any other website other than these 3:
civitai
huggingface
github

When you have finished the signin and settings process, you should have 100 points awarded to you (top right corner) and then each day you should visit the images galleries (click onto the website logo to take you there, then click onto the more images button to navigate through categories for the images such as animals, sport, sci-fi, fantasy etc) when you see an image you like, click onto the thumbs up icon and you will receive 2 points. Each day you can click onto 10 different images you like to get 20 points added to your tally. Points are used as virtual currency for the website. There are other ways to earn points which I will explain next time I see you, or you can navigate through your profile portal to learn more info. Points are used to generate images. You could become a paying member and pay real currency for points or you could be a freeloader like me. If you have any questions in the meantime, just let me know here.

We are now https://mlug-au.org.

Someone omitted to re-register mlug.org.au many years ago.

Cheers ... Duncan.

After much googling and several false starts I managed to registrer a new Google
account called mlugdemo. Email mlug...@gmail.com. Actually I had that ready in
time for last month's meeting.

Next I tried registering with Civitai. First attempt failed after I had spent
some time reading the terms and conditions: it said the captcha had timed out.
There was no way out of this except to close the window and start over. After
numerous captchas, password challenges and a PIN to my mobile, mlugdemo is
registered.

I couldn't find how to set filters when I registered but I stumbled over it just
now. I have blocked all available filters including "furry" - is that worth
blocking?
Yes, I see them.

Also managed that just now. Will try to do it every day.

@Pool: would you like to give your presentation via my laptop next month?

@Everyone: I emptied the attendance list
https://mlug-au.org/doku.php?id=attendance the day after last meeting. Feel
free to add your name if you mean to come next month.

Cheers ... Duncan.

It is a little tricky navigaging through all the various navigation buttons/icons, which is why I wanted to train you in person that other meeting, to save you a lot of time and energy. Furry is in relation to furry bypedal characters. It is good that you get the choice to block certain content you dont wish to load up. Furry animals such as AU mammals such as wombats wont be blocked, it is more the fantasy element furry characters.

Next meeting in Aug I can train you and any other participants that wish to learn on all features on how to use the website service but unfortunately I dont do recorded presentations or dont even do unrecorded presentations.
If another participant wants to do a presentation in the near future (once I train them and then they have some expereince using the website or already have expereince using their own models installed locally) they can do a presentation.

Let me know if you can get there 1 hour early so I can train you before the official meeting starts, so the meeting is not cut short.
In the meantime before next meet you could do the following.
Although a lot of content you see by other users may not appeal to you, there are many sci-fi themes or celestial themes for example and you will eventually find something appealing. I dont know what your interestes are but you will find something.
For example there are some users that combine old analog electronics with diarhama settings to create interesting settings or even miniature railroads etc If you are a concept artist, you can use this technology to bring your ideas to life rvrn if they defy real world physics etc.
If you can recall what the first desktop PCs use to look like in the 70s and 80s you can replicate them with prompts.
If you have digital format images of old genuine desktop PCs you can use the images as training data to train the AI to learn the images (the website provides this service for you), then you can have your very own AI model on the website for other users to use online or download and use offline, to generate old PCs sitting on desks in a 1980s bedroom or Silcon Valley home garage etc using whatever prompts they prefer.
Use the search engine to search for a topic of interest. Then different models will load up in the results. Open the page of a model in a new tab, then scroll down the page to the Gallery section to see what images (by other users) appeal to you regarding that topic. Rightclick onto an image in the Galleries to load up it's page so you can view the prompts used to generate the image. Most users provide their prompts to their images but if you find some users that dont provide their prompts at all, so just move on. Then cut and paste together all the different prompts you want to use for the images you want to generate.
Preferably play around with SDXL format models and images because SDXL generates base images that are almost 1080p before upscaling etc. Whereas SD 1.5 images are much lower resolution when generated. SD 1.5 came out many years ago.

Keep a lookout for a new model that has been released called Flux 1, it is suppose to be very good already at base level but once the community start support it and refining it, it will be extremely good and although its for free, even professional graphic artists will be using it.
I use sdxl (has been out for a year and a bit) but that can be very unreliable sometimes and you are required to use addons such as ADetailer to correct imperfections and you can use Hi-Res Fix etc but Flux 1 (released recenlty) and other models of the future will have ironed out all the issues of the past.
Check out the video for now and the download links later when you are confident enough to start expermenting using text-to-image models installed locally (can run offline) on a linux pc and not havre to use online services such as civitai and/or other service which charge you money.

Flux 1 Schnell by Black Forest Lab is the BEST SD Model to date. It rivals Midjourney in quality and artitic style.
Flux 1 is also very good with Text and can even create multiple Texts in the same image.
