Hi everyone,

Our next meeting is 3 weeks from tomorrow. I have just reset the
attendance list and updated https://mlug-au.org.

We have 1 talk scheduled, so there is room for one more if anyone else
has something they'd like to share.

Do put your name on the attendance list (on the website) if you'd like
to have an in-person meeting again this month. We only need 4 names,
mine's there already,

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi Everyone,

Next meeting is in 9 days time, on the Monday after next.

Recently, I've been developing a system to save per-window directory
stacks. I could show that if there's any interest (would be a short
talk). (After developing per-window bash command histories as per
https://mlug-au.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=20250224-bash_histories.pdf
I still got frustrated about losing my cd history. Saving the directory
stack addresses this).

So we know when everyone who's coming has got there, will anyone else
intending to come please put their name on the attendance list.

See you all a week Monday,

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi Everyone,

I've booked the dining room for tomorrow night. There are still only 5
names on the list - is no-one else coming?

I'll bring along a Kanotix (sort-of successor to Knoppix) USB for anyone
with USB-A to try (or maybe somebody will have an adaptor for USB-C?).

There are 2 (fairly short) talks scheduled, so still room for something
else.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Good morning everyone,

It seems my laptop (which has the slides) needs a replacement battery.

It turned itself off unexpectedly when we were packing up. I plugged in
the charger and on getting home, but it would output a message that the
battery capacity was too low. It still won't boot this morning.

In the meantime, here are the URLs from the "Saving bash cd history"
talk:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/duncan-roe/command_line_tools/refs/heads/master/dot_bashrc
for dot_bashrc, and https://github.com/duncan-roe/command_line_tools for
command_line_tools in general.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Duncan. You will be pleased to know that my dirs stack was much more sane today than in the past now that I know it rotates.

Hi everyone,

Slides are now uploaded.

It seems perhaps they didn't need to be delayed after all. When I first
plugged in the charger, I got messages that the battery needed
replacing. These stopped after a while and I got the LILO boot prompt.
But, kernel would reboot after outputting a few lines.

I assumed the reboots were part of the power issue. But they continued
after I installed the new battery. So I tried Kanotix USB (that I
brought to the meeting) and it was fine. The previous kernel (on the
LILO menu) was fine too.

After I re-installed the failing kernel, it was fine too. There must
have been some kind of file corruption, but `fsck -f` didn't find
anything.

A bit disconcerting. Oh well,

Cheers ... Duncan.
