Hi everyone,

The next meeting is 4 weeks from next Monday. I have reset the
attendance list and updated https://mlug-au.org.

Jerrome will be giving a presentation on Amazon Linux on AWS. We have
room for one other talk.

Do put your name on the attendance list if you're planning to come. I
book the venue once there are 4 names on the list: if people could
register early then we might get the dining room again this month.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi Everyone,

There being 4 names on the list, I booked the venue but had to settle
for the Snug as the dining function room was already reserved by another
group.

For those who haven't been in the Snug before: it's a small(ish) room
out the back with an HDMI screen and seating capacity of about 10. It's
a bit noisier than the dining function room owing to having an window
overlooking the beer garden (just so you know).

There's still room for one more talk - any takers?

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hello, Everyone.

I have three topics, and I can choose one to prepare for a talk. Please
let me know which one you are interested in, so I can prepare for it.

The first one is running an ISP for yourself in your dormitory bedroom.
For which I can talk about maintaining Internet resources, tunneling to
peers, running BGP, and so on, and also my experience doing so while I
was in my university.

The second one is to port Debian 13 to loongarch, which is now at
https://loong13.debian.net/ . I can talk about the status of loongarch,
how we bootstrap the build environment, and how we build every Debian
package automatically, hosting a repo, and so on.

The third one is about how to properly resize an image. I can talk about
the algorithm being used by current software, how they made it wrong,
and how I do it in my understanding of digital signal processing. This
topic will involve a lot of math and signal processing, which might be
hard to understand without an idea about integrals, convolution, linear
transformations, and the frequency domain.

Looking forward to your suggestion!

Regards,

Wencey Wang

Please go ahead with #2 (port Debian 13 to loongarch).

I'll update the web site when Michael lets me back in.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi Everyone,

Next meting is tomorrow, 29th July. We have 8 people expecting to come
at this stage and the venue is booked (in the snug this month).

We have 2 talks scheduled: "Amazon Linux" given by Jerrome and "Porting
Debian 13 to loongarch" given by Wencey Wang.

Jerrome, I don't see your name on the attendance list. Are you planning
to give your talk over Jit.si? (which would be completely fine).

So I know when everyone who's coming has arrived, will anyone else
intending to come please put their name on the attendance list.

Cheers ... Duncan.

I can give a brief talk about the Matrix server if we have time.

The matrix.mlug-au.org subdomain is active now. So I'll issue a registration token tonight so that anybody who currently does not have a Matrix account but would like one can sign up.

Federating to external servers (like ubuntu.com, mozilla.org, etc) won't work until after name delegation has been configured. I'll let everyone know when that happens (or you'll notice in your Matrix client when you can see the public room directory of matrix.org).
