On one of my debian servers I get a recurring large file in the
/var/spool/cups/tmp file (279MB) every day at 7:35am, this has amounted
to 3.9GB and is growing everyday.

Can I safely remove these files?
How do I find out what is causing the problem?

I've had a look at my print queue and there is nothing in there. All the
files start with gs_ eg: gs_V4iP4K, if I have a look at one it looks
like postscript code.

What happens when you run ps2pdf on it?

Loaded up http://localhost:631 and found 3 jobs where pending for the
last month on a printer which has been removed from the network. These
didn't show up in other print job tools (lpq & through the
system-config-printer). I've removed these jobs and restarted cups, so
now I'll see what happens tomorrow morning at 7:35am.
