I remember someways back reading something about google changes and https but paid it little mind. However, recently when trying to go to bom.gov.au with Firefox and I get the message: "The Bureau of Meteorology website does not currently support connections via HTTPS.

On my LAN weather data page I have a link that will open up a fancybox pop up with the 128 km radar rainfall map inside. I used to be able to hit the 256 km link and bring up that map but now I also get that same message.

What puzzles me is that I can go to bom.gov.au with chromium and click into the 128 km radar and from there the 256 km radar no problem

Firefox and Chromium are both run from a slackware (current as of 2 months ago)

Any suggestions would be welcome

I just tried going to https://www.bom.gov.au in firefox and got the same message as you, then got redirected to http. I had to manually type in https://www.bom.gov.au into firefox to force it to use https. Looks like the bom's https isn't working. I suggest you change your script to first try https and if that fails then gracefully fall back to http. You could do this by checking the status and then using http instead.

Neither www, http or https works. I get the same message with each. Out of curiosity (maybe some anger too) I closed firefox, shifted my current .mozilla directory to /tmp and when I re-opened firefox I had a new .mozzila directory. Firefox will now connect to bom.gov.au using either www or http. The server for the weather station is out in the garden shed. The original 128 km radar fancybox pop up is served from there but when I click the link the the 256 km page I suppose the focus was is then on my default browser, firefox, hence the "no https" message. With the vanilla .mozzilla file I can now click out of the pop up into the 256 km page.

Might of been a cache issue with your old profile or some old certificate.

Dunno ... it used to bother me when I got something working again and
didn't know why ... not so much these days. Now I just have to sort out
what has to be moved from the old to new mozilla so I can get back
through a couple paywalls and go some other places without having to
look at the adds

Cheers to you and all for the season!
