Some questions regarding the MLO widget on Android (Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS):

- how do I resize the "resizeable" widget? It always seems to open as 2x3.
- how do I filter the data in the widget by context? It always seems to display everything, unfiltered.

Another question, not only for the widget:

- how can I quickly switch to another context view? On MLO for Blackberry, I could type some letters and it would filter the context by my typed string. On Android, I always get the full list of contexts and I have to scroll for very long to get to some context on the bottom.

Thanks
Max

Widget answers

Resize by tap & hold. Let go then you'll see the ability to resize

Set the view to active actions by context.

Hey thanks, but this does not work for me.

When I tap & hold, after a short moment the widget "pops up" and allows me to drag it around to different positions. If I then let go it just pops back but I do not get any handles nor any other way to resize it.

Setting the view to active actions by context is not helpful since I have about 30 contexts and if I only see 5 lines or so in the widget I have to scroll several pages to get to the context I am interested in. I would like to set a certain context and only see those tasks. (I am able to filter by context in the main app, although again it is a little awkward to set a context which is far down in the list since I cannot search by entering text... lots of scrolling needed... just takes too long.)

The ability to configure views similar to the desktop software would be great for both the main app and the widget. I could imagine a view pop up whenever I tap on the title bar of the widget -> this would allow me to select one of several preconfigured views to filter by whatever constraints I want to filter my task list.

Thanks
Max

if u are using ADW ex.

Tap and HOLD. widget will pop up. DO NOT DRAG. after pop up, just release, you'll see a list of options. choose resize or something similar.

Even if I tap, hold, and do NOT drag, I never get a list of options to choose.
This is on Samsung Galaxy S2 using ICS (Android 4.0.3).

I just tried it out myself on Samsung original launcher.

After u put the widget on the desktop. Long press on it to adjust. After long press & release, you'll see a box outline + 4 tiny dots surrounding the Widgets. Tap on any of the dots & drag to adjust widget size.

If u can't do what I told you above, then you are on your own. Coz I tested it myself.

Good luck! :-)

Back to Max's issue of too much scrolling or typing to reach contexts at the end of the alphabet:

I'm not using the resizable widget till my next Android upgrade. But on the widgets I have, when displaying active-by-context, if i tap on any context name I get a list of context and can easily flip to the end and pick a context name. Please let us know whether or not this works for you.

Yes, that works but does not really solve my problem of being able to filter.

I use quite a few contexts containing other contexts. So one of my issues could be related to being done in the context "PC" (at a computer) which is contained in "PC office" (my office computer) and "PC home" (my home computer), where "PC office" is contained in "The Company" which is contained in "@Work". So in the list ordered by context I can see the context "PC" but I will not find "@Work". When I select "PC" I will only see issues of that context, but not all the other contexts which are also included in "@Work".

I can manually set a filter for "@Work", but that requires going through the menu -> Filter by context -> long list of many many contexts where I can to scroll all the way to "@Work". That way I get to see all the contained context issues in one view, properly sorted by computed score.

On the Blackberry MLO app, I would just press "u", then type "work", then hit Enter.
I am looking for a similarily easy and quick method to select context filters.

I guess I am on my own then. Can't get the box outline and tiny dots to appear!

Thanks anyway!

Max,

I agreed to you. What MLO is missing now is saved search. In which we can specific search string and save it for future use.

Andrey, can this be made possible?

1. Are you using a phone or a tablet?
2. Resizable MLO widget only works on tablet.
3. Phone can only use fixed size widget.

Hope this is helpful.

Interestingly enough, I recently switched to using Launcher 7, and I am able to resize the widget there (on its Widget page).

Did not work on the original Samsung launcher for me... (galaxy s2)
