It was great to meet everyone who came along to our first session in the Town Wall - can't believe it's been two weeks already!
Here's a quick summary of what we discussed:
- People are coming to MLNE from a range of backgrounds, ranging from PhD candidates from the Cloud Computing CDT, people using ML at work, and a range of other interested amateurs
- There's enough interest to start a regular meetup, with the potential to get a CampusNorth booking (we'd need a regular 15 attendance for that, with the reward of free beer)
- Lots of people are interested in getting their hands dirty, working together on writing code, so the main focus of meetups will be a codedojo
- With this in mind, we agreed that it would be good to spend the first few meetups on upskilling everyone in some of the basics. We'll take a top down approach initially, just pick some tricks from the ML libraries and see what it comes up with. However, since at least two of us are Mathematicians, we'll gradually incorporate some deeper explanations and understandings of how they work.
So, the only thing to decide is where and when we'll meet next time.
I've posted a poll for a couple of meetup options - mainly, we don't want it to clash with PythonNE since quite a few of us go there too!
