There are several rumors of Amway being a scam online. They claim the
company is a pyramid organization that’s more interested in increasing
member count than selling products.
This may be partly true for some IBOs, (the distributors) because some
IBOs do keep trying too hard to convince people to join their business
and build their MLM downline. Of course there are IBOs who dont do
this either, so how does this determine whether the supplier itself,
i.e. Amway, is "legit".
A ggod start is that for 51 years Amway has been manufacturing high
quality products and backing them with a 100% money back guarantee.
And that includes return shipping. I don't know of any other company
that does this.
Of course there are many other ways to determine legitimacy, like
checking with the National Chamber of Commerce, etc. BTW, trash any
idea of checking with the BBB on ANY business. All good standing with
BBB means is that a company pays it's BBB membership dues and that
they answer all issues.
It's a good sign, but it's not proof.
Once you know to separate the IBO part of the business from the
manufacturer (Amway), then it become easier to determine what part is
"legit" and which is not.
When people ask this, what they probably really are asking is, "Is
this person, this IBO, that I'm talking with, are they legit.
Remember, the ultimate aim of an IBO is to bring in enough business
volumue to make money. But most people go about this the wrong way by
trying to convince people they know to listen to their pitch and
compelling them to join their business.
Over the years, this trend has become so bad that there are websites
that offer advice on how to deal with Amway IBO friends. It's wise to
distinquish the "legit" parts from the bad ones. Yes, some groups
taught bad principles and practices to their IBO followers, but it
would be a mistake to think that those people's actions are going to
be duplicated by another group of IBOs, let alone by Amway itself.
Amway makes products and offers an opportunity to IBOs to earn money
by marketing them. It's the methods of the IBO groups that needs
close scrutiny.
With the new ability of an Amway IBO to market their websites online,
many are finding that it’s better to think of themselves as a business
owner and solicit "Customers" who’d be interested in their products.
The strength of Amway is it's high quality products. Though there are
people who shy away from any kind of product promotion, there are
others who’re looking for superior products and will be happy to see
what you can offer.
There are many ways to reach this target market, eg. through the
internet, personal contact, social media marketing, etc. The options
are endless. It's the method that separates the successful IBO from
the frustrated ones.
