The biggest problem with every network marketing company I've joined
in the past are the people at the top, the corporation founders and
top producers. Their dirty little secret is that networkers are a
paying sales force that is more lucrative than actual sales, so the
company's focus inevitably shifts to where the money is, recruitment.

Ever wonder why every MLM changes their compensation plan again and
again? Of course, they ALWAYS tell you it's for the benefit of the
little guy, but another dirty little secret is that it's for the
benefit of the big producers, the networkers at the top. The reason
is obvious, helping one big producer will greatly enrich both them and
the company. I can't tell you how many times I've worked hard to
obtain a decent supplemental income only to see it evaporate overnight
when the comp plan is changed. The corporation then continues to lie
to my face and tell me it's better for most people, even though
everyone below me has also seen a drop in their income!

The last MLM I joined was GBG and because it was founded by Christians
and they purposely setup their comp plan to reward the little guy I
bought into it. But, you guessed it, they changed their comp plan and
I saw a dramatic drop in my income.

I still believe in the idea of MLM as "the poor man's franchise" but
unless the company promised me, in writing, that they would never
change their comp plan, I wouldn't join. I understand the need to
change prices for products and services but if it's a great comp plan
there is no need to change it.

I also think there should be no compensation for ANY sales of tapes,
books, sales kits, etc. The compensation should be tied exclusively
to the product or service. The FTC has shut down many MLM's because of
this one issue. If the compensation is only for sales then the FTC
has no problem with the MLM, so this would be a no brainer if it
weren't for man's greed.

Leroy,

Good post and I appreciate you sharing your experience with the comp
plan change issue.

Any of us who have been "around the MLM mountain" have our own stories
and so I'm sure you hit a cord with many of us.

One thing I feel that I should address is your last statement "... if
it weren't for man's greed."

Maybe it's the 'share the wealth' political climate that we're in, but
I am most grateful for "man's greed".

Without it, we'd be lazy socialists. Greed is a good thing, it's the
misuse of it that is the culprit.

It's kind of like guns, aspirin, cars, you name it, there are many
things that facilitate damaging results, but it's not the greed that
does it. Greed is the motivator. It's the person who lets the greed
get ahead of their morals and doing the right thing.

I believe it's the pride and the corruption that drives people to
become overly greedy.

I'll get off my soap box, because writing thoughts down can sometimes
seem like I'm being critical. I'm not trying to be, I'm trying to
elaborate on the "man's greed" thing because I believe it gets the bad
wrap for what some people do with it.

I like your post and I do appreciate you sharing it so all can read
it.

Carry on my good friend, for your work and your words will live way
beyond either of us,

Kurt at www.GrossInternational.com where I hope I display good greed,
the kind that helps everyone, not just me :)
