Why networking works for some and not others is probably more about
THEM than the COMPANY, but not always. I'll talk about when it's THEM
who fails here. And of course I say "THEM" because it's never "US"
that has a problem, right? It's always "THEM". :)-
Here's a scary fact - "96% of Americans make less than $35,000/year by
age 65"
(source: U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services -
www.hhs.gov).
Now it's clear that some people are successful and that some aren't,
but the groups are different in size, aren't "THEY". And we know from
experience in networking that some business systems work and some
don't. So what's the difference?
We know of people who become successful and we know of systems that
work, like McDonalds, WalMart, and many others. What determines which
people and which systems succeed?
Is it easier to find successful systems than it is to find people that
are? Actually, they are the same because we must remember, systems
are groups of people. They failures in systems are just as high as in
people because systems are people.
That's obvious, but sometimes our minds trick us and we segregate
them. Wrong thinking!
While history is full of people who started from scratch and struck it
rich, that group is very hard to predict who will and who won't make
it, but there is a group of people who can be predicted to succeed,
and that's what we choose to focus on in networking, i.e. the ones who
will succeed.
They way a good networker learns how to identify this group is by
watching their actions. The wrong thing to focus on is what they say.
These are two different things.
It's this group of predictable people who we look for. For example,
what do successful oriented people do when confronted with new ideas?
They look for how something will work.
The people who are predetermined to fail are those who look for ways
something won't work.
That sounds simple but not if we listen to what people say. "THEY"
say they are looking for opportunity but most are only looking for get
rich quick. It's what they DO that matters, not what they SAY.
The majority of people tend to be skeptical and they tend to focus on
how something will not work rather than how it will, thus the 96%
failure rate found in real life. It's not that American free-
enterprise doesn't work - we all know it does, except for the die-hard
skeptics - they don't think anything works!
Those who succeed FOLLOW a proven plan. Those who fail follow their
own unproven ideas. I know this all too well. That's what I did for
the majority of my life and that's why I got such a late start on
becoming financially free.
People who fail seldom look within themselves for the cause, but
rather for some outside reason(s).
Failure in business is ALWAYS someone's fault. It's not the business,
it's not the government, it's not the weather, it's people. And when
a sole proprietor starts a business, there is only one person to
blame, yet I seldom hear anyone accept the responsibility for it.
"They" usually have a list of external reasons. Those people failed
twice. Once when the business failed and second when they failed to
learn how THEY failed the business. You can't learn unless you first
look for the cause and effect.
Whether an opportunity it's the right one for a particular person is
unknown to all others. Sometimes even to that person, but that's
another topic.
I do know that if people will set what they 'think' works aside and if
they will follow the proven path that has been already proven to work,
that they will be successful. That's a mighty big "if" though!
The reason most people slip off this path to success is because we're
people - we think and we chose our own way.
There is not really a better or simpler way to say this. Success will
always be inconvenient and failure will always seem like it's not our
fault.
Unless you know this or can accept it, life will be a bit tougher for
you than for those who's destiny is success. You will most likely be
prey to those telling you how easy it is to get rich.
No matter what a person wants to believe or what their friends have
told them, there are no free lunches.
If you're the type who focuses on what others have done who have
failed, please try to get your mind around these simple ideas:
You won't have any trouble finding people and stories about how any
given business WON'T work, and you won't have any trouble finding
people and stories about how it DOES work.
